How I pack long guns.
I don't use bubble wrap much anymore. I wrap long guns in heavy brown kraft paper, a 24" x 900 foot roll costs me $54.57 delivered. I use heavy corrugated boxes 53x8x4 and a package of 15 costs $76.57 delivered. That's $5.10 each. And I buy good 2" packing tape. Once I have the gun wrapped, I center it in the box by packing it tightly with brown paper. You could invert the open box and shake it violently and the gun would not fall out. I then put a thick wad of paper at each end. I also mark the end where I have the FFL and contact information "INVOICE". I try to protect the firearm and make it as easy as possible for whoever will be opening the box. A missing or broken firearm is just an awful mess. I try my best to avoid it. Handguns I mostly use USPS free medium size boxes if they will fit. Some guns come in plastic cases so large that they would hold a week's worth of clothes for most folks.

Where do you buy the boxes at?
Paper and boxes come from Uline. Tape is Jarlink clear 2" packing tape from Amazon.
I would also "ball tape" the barrel muzzle, to about the diameter of a tennis ball.......to help prevent the barrel exiting the box.
Also.......without fail.....remove the bolt from the action. Put it in a padded envelope.....and safely pack elsewhere in the box.
Lastly........assume that "someone" is going to toss the box about 10 feet.......on concrete!! ☹
One other thing I do is that with lever guns, Marlins and Winchesters, I usually remove the butt stock. This is a vulnerable area on that type of rifle and involves removing one screw. I always contact the customer and make sure they are cool with it.
That won't work, you need that guy that wants certified shipping to tell you how to do it.😈
I usually just use a sling to pack mine, but hey, whatever gets you there.

Good plan. I have a 336SC that arrived years ago shattered at the wrist. I easily found a replacement butt stock, but color doesn't match the forearm. I've never been able to buy a matched set so hoping one day to find a rifle with good matching wood and swap it out. Unfortunately these rifles don't sell cheap anymore.
All the stories I hear... I get worried. Got to get that check in the mail tomorrow 😊

Just a hunch, but I think Ricci is planning for them to go further than you are.

Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
