Sunduh Brunch

Rocky RaabRocky Raab Member Posts: 14,432 ✭✭✭✭

Wife and I celebrated our 53rd (which was on the 4th) by going to a Sunday Brunch at Snowbasin ski resort. You ride a gondola car up 3,000 feet to the very top of the resort at 9,000'. There, the lodge is in the several stars category of restaurants (owned by the same company as Sun Valley in Idaho). It was $75 a head, plus drinks.

We wore nice clothes; slacks and a jacket for me. But 95% of the rest of the crowd was in tee shirts and flip flops. Now I will grant that some of them planned to walk back down after eating (YGBSM!) but the lack of decorum was shameful - to me at least. One exception was a truly elegant and statuesque Black lady. She captivated everybody's attention, and not because she was the sole Black person there. Just stunning.

Anyway, it was good that we left early so I could limp and gimp my way around. Because there was also some kind of endurance marathon going on, called the Spartan Races. Holy Hannah -- Not only were all the main and overflow parking lots crammed, but both sides of the access road leading to the resort were lined with parked cars for TWO MILES. Fortunately, we had reserved parking previously arranged.

I wish I had taken photos, people. The views up there are beyond my capability. Because we had so much snow (and there were still snow banks up top) everything in Utah is still vibrant green. Normally the grasses and brush are brown and lifeless by July. We joke that we have five white months, one green one, five brown ones, and one red one.

Back down now, obviously. Changed into cooler clothes; it will hit 95 down here today. May have a food coma nap. Thanks for reading.

I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Sounds like a great way to celebrate your anniversary. We will be celebrating our 53rd on Sept. 12th. Not sure what we will do.

Happy 53rd to you and your wife, Rocky. That's an impressive accomplishment.

I fully agree with the seeming lack of any kind of decorum in the present population. I don't expect a suit and tie for dinner, but doggone it, can you at least put on a pair of pants that don't have holes in 'em and take yer damn hat off when you come inside!

Congratulations on the 53 rd anniversary. We just did 43 on July 5th.

We went to a Flemings steak house for our anniversary. Having been there before we knew the dress code. It is supposed to be business casual. That now means jeans and tee shirts.

Congrat's to both you and your Mrs. Rocky on 53 years of togetherness!!

Sounds like a nice time had and I'm curious about your meals? What were you served? My wife and I will be sharing our Golden 50th come this next February. I probably should start doing some planning now in an effort to special things up a bit out of the ordinary!

It was a buffet. Waffle bar, omelet bar, prime rib and ham, fruit, salads, cold shrimp, salmon, plus a dozen hot trays with veggies, taters, biscuits and gravy, mac and cheese, etc and still more etc. Huge dessert bar. Cocktails and wine available.

Service was exemplary. You could hardly sip your coffee or take a last bite before they swoop in and fill your cup or remove your plate. The manager came by to congratulate us (but didn't offer a glass of bubbly, alas) and there were almost as many servers as customers.

53 is commendable and a testament to a lot of hard work. Congrats to you two!

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

We are closing in on 55 (12/06/1969). Easy for me to remember. Two great American tragedies back to back.

It's too late for me, save yourself.
