Why did ammo makers decide to use small primers in 45acp and 10mm?

I do alot of scrounging at the local range for brass left behind. I have been finding lots of Federal and Blazer brass in 45acp with small pistol primers! Same with 10mm brass! What is the reasoning behind this switch, is it just to screw with the reloading fraternity? I was loading 45acp this morning and must have come across 30-40 cases that utilized small pistol primers! Does anyone take the time to reload these cases? I just don't want them mixed in with my large primer cases.

I don’t have a clue, but if you find the answer please let me know. Bought some box’s about a year ago account they were on sale, they all have small primers. They seem to work alright but can’t find much on reloading them. Why can’t they just leave well enough alone. The only thing I can think of is maybe they work better with some of the newer powders.

I've always thought that there were only two 45ACP powders....Bullseye and Uniiiiiiqqqqqque!😎

I toss the ones I find in a bucket and reload just like large primer brass when I get up around 1000

Strictly my opinion but I believe when 45GAP came out using SPPs it became evident they could be used with 45ACP and with one less thing to reconfigure meaning less down time switching it saved therefore made money to use SPPs for major ammo makers

I have a lot of them and have run a few batches and they shot fine.

I have noticed the only times I have problems and need to replace the plastic tips for my Dillon primer magazines is when I reinstall them. If I leave then in indefinitely they seem to work fine prompting me to prefer leaving the small pistol set up in for 45ACP

More irony with the insanity of COVID I could get LPP earlier but SPP were the hardest to find so ran LPP but lately SPP are in supply and LPP are scarce and more money which should give cause to pull out those dreaded SPP 45ACP cases

Please note more and more ammo makers are doing the SPP 45ACP. First it was Blazer/Speer then Federal now Winchester and Fiocchi and I know a couple more I have seen but forgot which ones
