France really gets a bad rap (a lot of it for good reason) but without the French our revolution would never have succeeded. And they helped us at a time during which their own country was undergoing a lot of turmoil.

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

    Vive la France!

    "Arise, children of the Fatherland

Our day of glory has arrived

Against us the bloody flag of tyranny

is raised; the bloody flag is raised.

Do you hear, in the countryside

The roar of those ferocious soldiers?

They’re coming right into your arms

To cut the throats of your sons, your comrades!

    To arms, citizens!

    Form your battalions

    Let’s march, let’s march

    That their impure blood

    Should water our fields."

I was in France about 2 months ago. The French have a reputation for being rude, arrogant, and downright snotty, yet I saw nothing like that. Not even a hint.

The French are proud of their country, their language, their history. They're also funny, talkative, and easy to get along with if you show them respect and learn your manners in French. "Merci" and "Bon jour" go a long way if you say them with a smile and some humility.

I'd go back to France in a heartbeat.

I lived and worked in France for several years in the 1980s. I always felt far more free there than I ever have in the US.

I agree. My wife went to school in Paris. We have traveled to many places in France. I was in various French cities in the service. We never have had a problem with anyone.

In fact we have been comped drinks and food at restaurants just for being polite.

The French cities are just like here they are busy and can have some rude people. You have to get out to the country and meet what I call the real French people.
