Great Salt Lake here in Utah is even saltier. It was MUCH more so when it reached its lowest level ever last year.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Your granddaughter will always remember the feeling of floating in the Dead Sea, I know this for a fact

I did a story on the Dead Sea way way back in 99 about the impending doom of Y2K

There is a lifeguard but not for drowning but in case you ingest the water which can be lethal.

When you come out of the water you need to quickly rinse off as it feels like something is hardening all over you like a plaster. Very cool feeling but one that makes you want to get to the shower

The DS has more than a high concentration of salt. It has many minerals and is the lowest point of land on earth. Masada is not far away from the resorts

I'm missin' something. How can the Dead Sea be 'the lowest point of land' on Earth? Is it in a depression that is actually below mean sea level?

That's it. So is Death Valley, btw.

Enter Cliff Clavan... Both are caused by buckling of the earth's crust by tectonic movement. Like pushing on a rug, there are high ridges and low valleys. Some of the valleys can be lower than mean sea level.

There is a spot at an intersection of the road that runs along the Dead Sea at a gas station with a sign that says "The lowest point of land on earth".

I have a picture somewhere of me standing by the sign but have no idea where it is now

I wonder if they dug a canal from the Mediterranean Sea and flooded that area how big the sea would become and if it lowered the Med so much the Aegean Sea became the Aegean Mountains. I kid, I'm a Kidder😁

    Salton Sea: Imperial Valley.

Below sea level, and you can almost walk on the surface.

Spot near Dead Sea has an airfield. The altimeter on aircraft will show a negative number. Yes. below sea level. Much like my grades in Algebra II.

Wife, Daughter and Grand daughter were in Israel the 3rd week in June. They went with a group of friends from Colorado and had a fantastic tour.

Made it to the low point in Death Valley, but never to the Dead Sea. We were in Isreal mostly looking at Birds and wildlife, so we were mostly in the Golan Heights and around the Sea of Galilee. We did tour Jerusalem.
