Finally....a decent rain

Thank you GOD.......

About 11 last night a big, unpredicted storm rolled in. Big winds, lots of wind and lightening. I headed out and called Martha and put her in for the night.

This morning all was looking good so I checked the rain gauge 1.4" We are the stage where this can still make a difference ! Did you all get any of the storms this weekend ?

Yes. 3-1/2" Thursday night followed by a microburst on Friday and another 1/2" on Saturday. First appreciable rain we've had for weeks.

Lots of water damage then wind damage. Blew my corn down. The garden is a sea of mud and I need to pick green beans.

We were going fishing this morning, but they let Claytor Lake dam out last night and the river is up 4 feet and dirty.

    Thankful for the rain, though.

We seem to have feast or famine with the rain lately. Don't get any for 3 weeks and then an 1" in about 20 minutes over the July 4th weekend. Then no measurable amounts until last Thurs night when we got 3+". We were gone for a couple of days over the weekend and they had predicted more rain but none showed on my gauge when we returned home. We made a 400 mile round trip in the northern half of Michigan's mitten and most of the fields of corn, soybeans and potatoes looked a lot better than they did last year when we were in a more drastic drought situation. Hope that continues to hold for the next several months. Bob

North Texas has been running 103+ temps for about 2-3 weeks, get a heat advisory every few days and then a brief shower for about an hour or less every 3-5 days, not enough to make much difference since it dries up quickly. Most people cut hay within the last couple months, I should have but didn't so now it's wait until Fall most likely since it needs more wetness to grow...

I think it has rained almost every day, for the last two and a half weeks. We are just sick of the rain. Today was finally a beautiful day, but very humid. Rain in the forecast for the next three to four days again. Ugh. I can't remember when we got this much rain.

Good news, glad to hear it.

North Central MO hasn't really had enough rain to 'run off' for a long time. Stock ponds are running low so MDC has offered to allow farmers to pump livestock water out of conservation area lakes/ponds and haul it home. With $3.50-4.00 fuel prices, that's hardly worthwhile for most.

In February, I drained one pond in order to repair a water inlet expecting that spring rains would refill the pond. NOPE, almost 6 months later there's only 3' of water in the lowest point.

Little popcorn showers don't really help much. It rained here 4-5 times yesterday w/o making a measurable amount in the rain gauge.
