Shipping questions

jclemonsjclemons Member Posts: 5

If I sell a pistol on Gunbroker, I get a notification that the buyer provides an FFL dealer to send the pistol to, correct? And I have to verify this dealer on Gunbroker?

When I get this notification, I need to take the pistol to an FFL dealer for him/her to ship?

That is the easiest way....to let your FFL ship it, but it is not always required that you send it from an FFL. To verify that the FFL is legitimate you go to the ATF EZ check website....but that is something your FFL would do and you shouldn't worry over that part unless you were shipping it yourself.

I didn't think it was possible to ship it legally by myself. I have a carry license but that seems to have nothing to do with it.

If the receiving FFL will accept the pistol from an individual, you can ship it. The FFL must have a positive ID for his records, so they require a DL copy form you. Not all FFLs will accept a pistol from an individual. Also: FFL can ship via USPS, while individuals cannot, and shipping a handgun via UPS can cost $80 or more. It may be cheaper or easier to ship thru an FFL.

You can ship it yourself. Some FFls however make up their own rules, and won't accept a shipment from one of us unwashed commoners. Long guns can be shipped USPS, but if a non licensed shipper ships a handgun, it must be shipped by FedEx, or UPS. Those companies require you to ship "next day" and soak you $80.00 or so. It is usually cheaper to have an FFL ship a handgun. Also, if you ship yourself, DO NOT indicate anywhere on the shipping carton that there is a firearm inside.

UPS will not ship any firearm now unless you are a holder of an FFL license . USPS will not ship a hand gun unless you are a holder of an FFL license. USPS will ship a long gun if you are not a holder of an FFL license but, it must be shipped to an FFL dealer and have a copy of the FFL dealers license with the long gun and only shipped to the address on the FFL license.
