Nastiest little creatures on the planet.
They are everywhere here.
Vicious bugs. I had to deal with them all the time in Georgia. Knock on wood we don't have them here in the Blue Ridge.
How many times was this girl bitten? Seriously, this looks like an allergic reaction. Was she having any trouble breathing? If she is allergic to fire ants she needs to see a doctor quite soon and see about getting an epi pen.
OMG, that looks bad!!!!!!!!!! Never seen a fire ant. I don't think we have them in South Jersey. We do have one thing that is much worse though, Liberals'. Lots and lots of Liberals. Don't worry though, we are sending them south as fast as possible!!!!!!!!!
I encountered the vicious creatures one year...while field surveying a Army Corp Of Engineers dredge island in the middle of Cape Fear River, North Carolina. I was never bitten by them...but my survey party chief was bitten once on the hand, when he reached up to grab the top of bank, while he was getting out of the boat that dropped us off.
The open fields were covered with millions of them scampering around. They reminded me of Charlton Heston's movie --- "Naked Jungle". Great movie...btw.
Thankfully...we don't have them here in Maryland --- At least...not yet.
While surveying down at Eagle Island, North Carolina that same summer (1990?) here's a picture of a water moccasin that I photographed, after I almost accidentally stepped on him --- Bout 3 foot long. After that incident...I almost stepped on another moccasin, on the island that had the fire ants.
Here's a picture I photographed in the summer of 1972, at Calvert Cliffs, Maryland --- located on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay --- "Land of Pleasant Living"
There's a picture of the fire ants skull in another thread,,,
I remember fire ants. We don't have them in Utah. We also don't have many tornadoes or hurricanes.
On the other hand, we do have Mitch Romney...
Any relation to Mitt? Don
He is related to Mitt McConnell.
Tell her to move to Colorado or New Mexico, no more exposure.
Fire Ant bites are easy to recognize as they all look like little pimples and they hurt ............ a lot.
Should thank them ants for putting some color in them legs. Also you should've put a warning or instruct us to wear sunglasses before clicking the link.
The only thing I found to really control them is one ounce of Bifen insecticide in a gallon of water.I use a pump up sprayer and keep soaking the mound until it saturates deep in the mound.
I think you should re read the OP.
Forgemonkey: If she was bitten by 40 ants, then she just had a bad day. Weird that 40 ants would climb up the leg and not bite the lower leg.
But if she was just bitten by 2 or 3 ants she is having an allergic reaction. People die from allergic reactions.
Usually, as a person gets older, their sensitivity to a particular allergy. gets worse.
Fire ants are fast an will swarm on you real quick. They are terrible. Small children have fallen on mounds and died from the number of stings. They are thick here in Texas.
We fight them almost year-round here in SW Arkansas. Orthene with Acephate kills the nest in just a few minutes after use, stinks like he!!, but is now my go-to solution. Up near the house, I spray Bifen/IT to control everything that crawls.
What's an OP? Was there some hidden message in the image?
Sure looks pain full and i tend to Agee looks like a reaction and seeing a doctor or urgent care would not be out of line .
Glad we don't have them at least for now
