A few years ago I had occasion to take some class 3 items to TN. I knew to contact ATF to get written permission to take the out of state. Currently I have an item that I want to take to a local class 3 dealer. Do I need ATF permission to do this since it will be out of my possession for some time?

No, I trust you (most) guys more than this stranger. License or not.
I'd think that if he was a class III dealer, he would tell you the truth and not mess with the law.
Yeah, you guys are probably right. I have lived in a town of 400 for 41 years and I'm not the most trusting sort of a guy. This shop has been here about 1 year. I guess I should go in and meet him.
