Crazy New Colt Buy

Crazy New Colt Buy. Picked this modified Colt up alittle while ago. Was bought off another dealer at a show. Stated it was from a Vietnam Vets estate. There was no paper work. I due wish there was. Colt has barrel cut down short with a shotgun style bead attached. Fritz trigger guard modified. Hammer bobbed to hammer less. Larger cut out for rear sight. Still retains lanyard ring. Has British proof marks. Is marked 455 wby. My idea is this could be from a tunnel rat.

Is that, or was that a Colt New Service? I've handled a couple of them in .455 but never saw one with all those mods. If it could talk, I bet it would have an interesting story to tell. Good find. Bob
Survival pistol for British flyers?
The cool factor is high. Nice find.
Yeah "custom" in Fitz style or a bin build by Tuco since the cylinder is darker. Say is the cylinder made to accept moon clips. If not you might wanna.
It has a look of just try me.😊 I LIKE it course I ate at a Hardees yesterday.
Assuming the alteration was done in the US, it may be rechambered to .45 Colt.
Nice! Congratulations!
The real oddity is that barrel-banded front sight. I have never seen one like that.
navc130 - I didn't think about that. As soon as I saw .455 I went moon clip.
mmppres - So what is it? .455, .45 Auto Rim, .45ACP with moon clip or .45LC? I wonder if the barrel still has hacksaw marks?
kannoneer - Most likely after the barrel got chopped they had to put some sort of a front sight easily. I wonder if it's just lead solder? If it's lead solder it could've been modded in Vietnam.
I have shot 45 auto rim an 455 wby in it. Need to get some moon clips. I think that it was done in country. My opion would be why would you leave laynard rin on it if you were not going down into a tunnel? Supposed to have been a bring back from that wonderful tropical vacation so many guys got to go on free. Talked to the guy I bought it from again. He states the owner was a very small man. Kinda crazy house was a horder delight.
So a .455.
Is it lead that's keeping the front sight in place?
Being a tunnel rat gun a front sight is a wishful thinking.
That's one house I wouldn't wanta clear. There may be all kind a goodies hidden all over the place but the boobie traps.
I believe its lead solder type material. Not sure why a front sight was needed at all. But everything else done makes sense to what would be needed under ground. Just wish there would have been paper work with it. I didnt pay much at all. The revolver was sold to me as a parts gun. But it fits into my collection of cut barrels of Webleys.
