uBlock Origin
Works like a charm and it allows you to permanently remove certain items from a website. This is a great feature for getting around paywalls and other tech that blocks access to articles

I'll second that. If you want total freedom from ads, use the Brave browser plus uBlock Origin. Brave has its own blocker built in, and it catches almost everything. uBlock gets absolutely everything else. How many? Here's a screenshot of the totals on my Browser home page in just a couple months...

Keep in mind that it's not just ads you want to block. Some browsers sell your history to advertisers, who then target you via emails, texts, or other means besides pop-up ads. So browser choice is just as important. Chrome is about the worst, Firefox isn't too bad, Brave and Ungoogled Chromium are among the best. There are many others I have not extensively tried, such as Vivaldi or Opera, but they have many users.
No browser is perfect, and no browser works with all websites. That's why it's smart to have at least two and preferably more browsers installed. You never know when one will crash or not work with some needed website.
On my four machines, I use Brave as the default, with Firefox as secondary and either regular Chromium or Ungoogled Chromium as emergency backup. I don't use my phone for internet so can't offer advice there.
