Stupid question of the day.....Shotgun guys....Cast ON, Cast OFF.....
Locust Fork

Ok.....someone teach me the correct term for this. I understand that if the stock is not straight, slanting toward the left it is "cast on".....and slanting toward the right is "cast off".
My question is....does cast on automatically make this a left hand gun?
Is there such a thing as a cast on, right hand shooter?
Is the cast off only for right hand shooters? I can see how the sighting would be hard for someone with the stock pulling things off center, but I'm not familiar with customized guns enough to know if the Fausti I am listing is a "left hand only" gun or not because the stock is slightly cast on.

Cast-off, or slanting to the right (looking from the rear) is for right handed shooters and cast-on makes it better for lefties. It is supposed to work like that, but I've seen people who can shoot anything.
A little tutorial ,,,,,, from an ol’ trap shooter.

I never knew about this. I just thought any shotgun, was for a righty or lefty. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for the education. Oak.
Cast on/cast off? Keep it simple and get a '37 Winchester. It will find the bird. Just ask Arnold Reigger😉 ---------------Ray
If you have a stock with a lot of cast off or is a twisted stock for a righty it is very difficult for a lefty to mount it properly. Some shooters call a twisted stock a twisted sister cast. A stock can be cast for left or right hand shooters.
Many higher grade sporting guns will have a palm swell. If it also has cast off to right with right side palm swell it is a right handed gun. Just the opposite for a left palm swell.
Way back they use to hold the grand national clay bird shoots about 30 miles away for many years sadly I only went once my mistake for sure then the airport decided they wanted to use the land to expand
Any way they had shops set up to "fit" your shotgun for you modifying the stocks as needed being just a poor kid I had no idea about such things lol
That's when I learned about cast on cast off length of pull cheek height what what ever was needed for you shoot your gun better of course it was $$$$
Also When I first see the high-end shotguns with prices that my head spin
Way over my mossberg 500 and remington 870 life style
Before they built my Ljutic Mono Gun they sent me a ‘try gun’. I took it to the trap range several times, each time making adjustments such as LOP, comb height, cast, rib height, etc.
They built my gun from the measurements ‘locked down’ on the try gun. The gun shoots 60/40 pattern, meaning 60% of the shot string is above my hold on a bird that I float above the rib ,,,,,,, it leaves nothing but ‘smoke’ from the birds at the 16-25 yard line.
Yep, same here
That is amazing....I'd love to see a "try" gun.
Yall are so wonderful to help explain this for me....I appreciate all of yall's input very much!
Thank you!
