"A" prefix mod 41 serial numbers had six digits - could you have left one off in your post? A 414xxx started 1977 so I believe yours was 1976. Bob
No, only 5 digits, with an A prefix. Could they have left one off by mistake ?
Darned if I know. My books say the A prefix started in 1970 with serial # A115001. You could try calling S&W. Best of luck getting to the bottom of it. Bob
On the S&W forum page a collector said that an A prefix on a (5 digit) pistol under # 115000 indicates that there was a duplicate serial #. So there is another pistol out there with # 401xx, sans the A. Also in that thread, your 41 was made in 1960.
