New Windows being installed the next couple of days...
The house is 32 years old and when it was built they put in Anderson windows. My FIL was an engineer and pretty persnickety. He said they were the best windows on the market back in 1991. We had a couple of them start to fail this last year or so. Seals and hardware etc., but for the most part they have been great.
We have slowly updated the whole place the last few years and this is the final thing on the list (until my bride finds something else 🤨) It was time to get this windows project completed so we can enjoy the place for as long as we are around anyway. It should also make it easier to sell in the future or keep one of our boys and their family comfortable too if they decided to move in here someday, which we hope one of them will be the 5th generation to live here...
I will post some before and after pics once they are done !

Our house was built in 1995 it had builder grader vinyl windows. We moved in in in 2004. Electric was $ 275.00 a month
We replaced with Anderson about 5 years ago. Much quieter and at least 10-15% energy savings.
Only one window we didn't do and wish we had., small and in an hard to reach place. We can feel air moving around during the cold times. It's on the list to do.
That with a new roof, water heater,LED lighting, and new HVAC, have saved us over 50% on electric. From $ 275 down to $85.00 a month over the years.
Always great to upgrade the house, waiting on cooler weather to replace the Deck 24 x 24, ouch!
when we built our house they installed Anderson windows. When the wind blows it sounds like a steam whistle and you can feel the draft. Our's suck, I hope you have better luck with yours.

ME TOO !!!
Windows 11 right?
We replaced windows in our 1970’s house last summer. Old wood double hung were replaced with Pella vinyl replacement single hung. Oil consumption dropped by 50% over the previous years. You will be happy.
It is kind of like buying a new set of tires😏...looks mostly like the last ones but will be much better overall !!!
I have a good friend who has been in the window business for many, many years on the engineering side. He says Andersen windows are crap. I believe him. Maybe things were different 30 years ago? All I know is I won't consider them based on his advice.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I did my research..... A member of my family owes a commercial glass company. They have the opposite belief of your buddy.....Most of the issues folks encounter deals with who installs them.
But thanks for whizzing on my parade...
Not my intention. I hope your experience is a good one.

Our house is 23 yrs old, all Andersen windows. We love them.
just had ours replaced last year, went around the house for the next few weeks trying to close the windows, they were so clean/clear I thought the wife left them open.........
Thank you...
We've been discussing new windows. No prices yet. There 17-18 windows here, anyone willing to share prices? House built in 1990 with double pane aluminum framed, and some are showing wear and tear.
We had 18 windows replaced including a large picture window. Price was $19,000.00 total. This was fall of 2022.
A grand a window seems to be about what it will run, averaging all the sizes together.
Our experience with a local company was mixed. They got the three-pane picture window wrong and had to completely redo it. Then one of those panes lost its argon after a few years when the vinyl warped. All the others are still fine, however. Going to have to replace that big picture window in the near future because it leaks winter winds. Oh, and that company went out of business just before the window warped and lost the gas. Warranty useless. Figures.
ONLY 32 years? I've been fighting with Grouch Attack over replacement windows for the past 4-5 years(since it became considerably more dangerous for me to be up the ladder installing the annual plastic window coverings).
There's still no compromise. She DEMANDS the stupid floor to ceiling sized windows that were important when electric lighting was a luxury rather than typical. She never enters a room w/o flipping the light switch so why DEMAND 'natural lighting'??
"You can't see outside". Well, I don't have eyes on my knee caps and I'm not 6'9" so don't require a window that starts @ 30" and tops out @ 84". How is this logical??
Price....Depending on the grade of windows, it is like buying a Chevy or a BMW. Both are functional but with different accouterments or features.. We went with some upgrades as the sun heats up some rooms where there are larger windows. The kitchen/eating area was always hot in the morning and the living room hot in the afternoon...
The Low E glass should take care of most of that.. Better on the eyes and as building codes have changed, some of the windows have to be tempered glass due to heights so hopefully safer for us and grandkids running around here. We also had a new glass patio door put in the back of the house.. Door are really pricy no matter what grade you go with.... We also went with the better screens, we have a whole house fan in the attic. In the past, depending on the time of year, it would suck little bugs right through the old screens !
The weirdest thing is how quiet it is. The normal noise from the road is almost non existent..They are suppose to be finished today so will post a few pics soon.
My Bride is happy so that make it all good...
25 years ago we put on an addition and also replaced the sash in the original house (built in 1896). The original
big heavy iron ballast pieces on ropes were still there!
I replaced all of our old aluminum frame windows a couple of years ago with double hung vinyl.I can't remember the brand, but it was a very big improvement.
For indoor lighting we installed Solatubes, great in rooms with no windows, bath, laundry, walk in closet, hallway and abou 4 more. Love 'em.
My house was built in 1991 and used Anderson windows. I put a rock from the mower through one and a small window in the bathroom became foggy and was replaced half of it (the bottom window). Other than that, they are still good.
