Would you trade? ------------------- Decided not to.

Got a fella that would like to trade his stainless 1980 Ruger Security Six .357 for my older Marlin 336 chambered in .35 Remington. Both are in the $700. (give or take) range and neither are safe queens.
Which would be better to hang onto, maybe worth more in the future or just more desirable long term?
I'm on the fence because JM stamped marlins have gone forever, so there's that. Honestly though, I don't hunt so I don't "need" the rifle and I need the Ruger like another hole in my head but sometimes I just like to get a different toy.
What do you think?

Since variety is the spice of life, I'd go for the trade.
I kine more toward the Ruger, but that is just my own personal preference.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I'd keep the Marlin. The Rugers are common & topped out. A JM stamped 35 Rem is more unique or desirable & will only go up. Besides, you might have a use for the Marlin vs. another hole in your head.
I have marlins in .22, 30-30, 45-70, .44 magnum and the .35 rem. the .35 is the only one I'd part with.
The .22 (model 39 1953) is in pristine condition, the 30-30 was bought new and has been in the family for nearly 40 years, the 45-70 is a limited edition and unfired, the .44 magnum I paid $150. for and will never sell so that leaves the .35 stepchild for trade. Think I may just trade ........................... maybe .................
Keep the Marlin. Or they kick out a hundred.
Another vote to keep the Marlin.
I would likely keep the Marlin too. The real question is which one would you enjoy having/shooting more ?? I have been moving some firearms on and focusing in on what I enjoy shooting. Collecting is interesting as I get older, it is fun to pass things on to others to enjoy....
Why choose? Keep the marlin and buy the Ruger.
I want the Ruger
Thought about all the various comments and I too, think that keeping the Marlin is the wisest move.
Truth is, I probably wouldn't shoot either one of them anyway and while the .35 Rem round is not popular, there are probably fewer Marlin 336 chambered in .35 than there are Ruger Security Six's and of course that JM stamp is a piece of history after all.
Also thought about William81's comment regarding enjoying one over the other and yeah, the wood, the lever, the feel and the history ................ The marlin stays.
Thanks for the imput
My preference would be the marlin but scooterdriver has the right idea.
Ive got the Ruger and love it.
I don't think there was any wrong move here, just what would you be happier with. Glad you made a decision.
You know, it's nice to be able to throw something out there, that you are on the fence about and have so many like minded folks offer their much respected opinions. Sometimes we just need a little different perspective or a reminder and maybe a tiny nudge.
Uh, The Marlin hands down. The 35 Rem is hot hot hot right now. They are skyrocketing in price. I bet you can get close to 1,000 or above for a used 35 Rem, JM stamped. I have one and my father wanted it bad. I gave it to him as a Christmas present two years ago. If you list this 35, Please ,PLEASE let me know. Anything JM Marlin is ridiculous in price right now, even the 30-30. PA Hunters are looking for that rifle all day long. One of the most popular PA hunting rifles ever made. The Rem Marlins are almost worth what anyone paid for them, but the JM are where the money is at. Trust me, I look every day at multiple sites, for JM Marlins for sale. Oakie
Late to the party, but lots of Rugers out there, you can have both.
