Finally Home.
So last Sunday night, my ticker decided to take a little time out on me again. Doctors said one of my stents decided to fail. It was a minor heart attack, but knocked me for a loop. I felt great the next morning when they replaced the stent. I was ready to get out of bed and start working again, but I had to take it easy for a few days, for this medicated stent to take. I'm really fine and no need to worry. This was why I haven't been posting most of the week. My biggest problem is these damn cigarettes. I quit for 15 years and went back. I just really enjoy them, but they are not doing me any good. I'm just not ready to quit, but after last Sunday, I'm going to give it a try again. Chantix made me have nightmares and I tried hypnosis once. The last time I quit, I just cold turkeyed and was fine, so I just have to set a date and quit. Probably January 1st . That is what I did before. Anyway, I'm doing great now and am back working as of this morning. Got a Cardiologist appt. next Tuesday for a check up. Funny thing is, I passed a stress test and my ekg was fine about two months ago, so this happened quick.
Ken, I got your message and sent you a text back. I will try to call you this weekend. I just wanted you to know that I wasn't ignoring you, I just wasn't up to any conversations. They say heart attacks cause depression, and it is true. They gave me some medicine for it, and it feels like it is finally working a little. Starting to feel like myself a little bit more tonight. You know when would be a better time to quit those cigs? Tomorrow.
The final few years of my Dads life were not pretty, cigs were a big part of his demise. Started as throat cancer and went, downhill from there.
I smoked my last one Feb 12 2012.
Rest up and get well.
What Andy said, tomorrow is better. If you can do it for 15 years, you can do it. Or get pneumonia, that will get you off of them.
I'm so glad you are feeling better @Oakie .... Maybe it's time to start walking and watching your diet some... After all you want to be just like Dear Old Dad at 75 right? I think he thinks he's still 40.....

"Quitting was so easy I could not believe it."
I also went cold turkey and like Austin I found it so easy I could not even feel virtuous. After 3 days I knew I was done.
I quit a number of years ago... It was not easy but worth it all the way around. You can do it...Do it for yourself and for your family. Both are worth it.
Prayers for your health... AND for the choices before you.
@Oakie ... just quit the smokes now. You can do it and we'd all rather read your posts than your obituary.

I am so stubborn it only took me 2 days to realize I made the right decision to quit smoking. All it takes is willpower, and it won't hurt if your wife nags you a little.
Show us how tough you are. You can do this Oakie.

Glad you're home and on the mend. You gotta quit doing this. And quit those ciggs TODAY.
I quit smoking 12 yrs ago. 2 1/2 packs a day- cold turkey.
Quitting must be easy.I quit about 20 times before I stayed quit and that was about 40 years ago. Good luck.
Glad to hear you caught the symptoms on time and are getting better.
I won’t go into how you should quit, that is something you will have to decide on your own. I smoked for 50 years, and quitting was one of the hardest thing I ever done. I seriously believe nicotine is the most addicting substance there is. I also feel that the warning labels on the cigarettes is a joke, it should read: Cigarettes will cause you to lie and make excuses not to quit. Lol
I tried Wellbutrin once. It worked pretty good. Guess I will try it again. Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
Agree with all of the above! I sure hope you're able to kick the habit, Oakie. This would be a lesser place without you kickin' around.
