I saw that in the news a bit ago. RIP
American hero. I remember watching him play on TV back in the day. He and Dick LeBeau were some hard nosed hitters.
R.I.P sir. I saw him play in Champaign back in '63 where I drove down from Madison where I was attending school. I was smart enough not to wear my UW cap.
If I remember correctly, my earliest recognition was, him and Bubba Smith in the taste great, less filling debate in the Miller lite commercials of the 80s
I met him back in the 60's when he was still in college, he sure was a humble man then and OMG what a professional player! RIP
I always think of him on the Johny Carson show along with Clair Peller. She turned to him and said, "What kind of a name is Butt Kiss anyway".
Joe
Just as we talked about on the "Proud of myself" thread, I finally remembered where my Throw Back Butkus jersey was located.....AFTER I remembered I owned one !!!! 🙃😮
🙃
I had dinner in a Chicago eatery one night when Dick Butkus and Andy Granatelli (of STP fame) were at the next table. They went through Dungeness crabs like Butkus went through QBs. No, I did NOT ask for autographs.
One time called "The meanest SOB in football"
RIP Sir thanks for the memories.
He was truly one of the best players and a childhood hero. Those guys from that era, can never be duplicated again. One of my other favorite linebackers, and a guy most of you never heard of, was Mike Curtis, of the Baltimore Colts. That man broke his arm, had it casted, and finished the game!!!!!!!!!!! May they both RIP.
Those were the days my friends. Somewhat different today😏
