gotta give a shoutout to stonewall resort........
here in roanoke wva. today is their annual veterans day golf outing. the first time we went there were 140+ showed up last year it rained about 6 holes into the day and 50 degrees. we gave up as it was just to cold. I play with 2 cousins who are Nam vets and it is allways an enjoyable day. the golf course is an Arnold Palmer course and pretty tough for the average golfer which we are. the golf is free for veterans and the folks in the clubhouse are as nice as can be. there aren't as many WWII vets as most just can't golf anymore. all and all it is a nice jesture on the part of the resort a free day of golf and they way they treat the vets in a step above most these days. and just for the curious most days rounds go for $79-99 a round depending on time of year and day of week, this when most courses are around $30, so its a sizeable amount the course gives up....

Stonewall is a very nice resort with a beautiful golf course.. I don't golf but I have fished there many times. The lodge, camp ground, marina and entire area are first class.
I would love to play that course. So nice that they do this for veterans. I might have to see if the club I belong to, will do something like that. The clubs around here do it for police, fire and ems, but I have never seen a veteran run tournament.
Most of the clubs here charge about 30 to 50 with a cart. Then you have the nice courses that charge 125 to 400 for a round. Ridiculous. The club we belong to charges 110 for 18 holes. The only reason we are members, is because the wife's grandparents own it!!! They gave us free life memberships, but we have to eat there six times a year. Prices for meals are actually cheap and excellent food and service, so we don't mind. I should say, I don't mind. Donna hates to eat out anywheres. Cheap date she is. LOL.
had a great day, weather sunny in low 70's had one friend not show up so only three of us, paired up with a single on the third hole as the course was backed up. Turned out he was in the army in nam and flew into denang on christmas day of 67 same day as my cousin did, guess the airport was under fire for their introduction to nam, and they got to talking of old times, any of you all remember monkey mountain?? he was there as an engineer, while my cousin was on a gun boat up and down and around there. All and all another great day and hoping we can all make it again next year.....
