It is all about controlling you. Unarmed you are easier to control. Your safety be damned.
I think that it has awakened some folks, who might have been on the fence to begin with. But for the most part the sheep are still going to be sheep. Typically, it takes being personally harmed for real change in thought process to happen.
Like how many times does someone install a home security system after having a break-in? All. The. Time.

Yep most Americans are woefully prepared for something simple such as an extended power outage. Much less for something like this.
Waiting for newsom to offer sanctuary to the members of Hamas stuck behind Israeli lines. For their safety we will be disarmed for their stay.
It already has affected things .Jewish folks ,many of them lifelong liberals are signing up in droves for handgun shooting courses and buying guns. Israel has relaxed gun laws to enable the average citizen to purchase a gun
I believe the ban on export of civilian firearms to Israel has answered this question.

This situation shows/illustrates what happens when you disarm a population.
They left their population vulnerable to an attack by those with unfettered access to weapons.
If anyone is paying attention, there are lessons to be learned here.
The problem, of course, is that there are two distinct lessons, and we know the lesson those who would control us will learn.
