Fleas! Oh noooo.....what now???

Locust ForkLocust Fork Member Posts: 31,994 ✭✭✭✭

I haven't dealt with fleas in so long. We've always had dogs, treated the yard with a once yearly granual that pretty much handled everything...during the summer we'd give the dogs a pill that kills fleas and ticks just for good measure. I never ever saw one throughout all the years of just having dogs. Now we have cats. Two cats are outside only, roam freely....one is tame enough to handle, but the other is a 100% barn cat that I feed.

I'm guessing the fleas came with the wild cats and I dropped the ball on treating things.

So now I have seen three fleas....time to go crazy before this gets out of hand.

I have no clue how I'm going to give a pill to that barn cat?

IF you want to try and tame it , you can use a fishing net to catch it and then put it some where it can't get out until it tames down , be warned they go a little crazy when you catch them that way

If you have fleas in the house, here is an effective remedy. Get a cake pan, and put 1/2 inch of water in it. Put a tablespoon of vegetable oil in, the oil will float on the water. Plug in a night light to a socket , 10 to 12 inches above the floor. Put the pan below the light. Turn off other lights in that room.

At night, fleas jump towards that light, land in the water, they get soaked with oil and drown. Fleas are rather dumb.

Flea bombs in the house work well. As for the cat, just slip the pill into whatever you're feeding it. Coat it with fish oil or whatever you think the cat will like to get it to eat it.

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

For yard, which will eliminate continuing to have them use Tempo SC Ultra, mixed 16 ml per gallon of water (double check application rate) in hand sprayer. Spray around house area of yard. Good for a couple of months and pet/people safe. Works great.
