Pumpkin WHAT?

Rocky RaabRocky Raab Member Posts: 14,429 ✭✭✭✭

This has gone too far. Had lunch today and the daily soup was billed as Butternut Squash. It turned out to be pumpkin spice soup - Cuppa Nutmeg would have been more apt.

Then, while driving home, I passed a Chinese joint and on the billboard it said "Pumpkin Cheesecake Wontons Are Back!" Pumpkin cheesecake frigging WONTONS?

I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Pumpkin pie is the only thing that needs pumpkin spice.

I wouldn't have been happy with either. Pumpkin is ridiculously overrated from October through Christmas.

I have absolutely no use for pumpkin anything, aside from my one piece of pie at Thanksgiving.

Pumpkin wonton? Somebody needs to be slapped on the ear a couple times.

If you ask me, what has ruined the pumpkin pie has been what store bought pumpkin pies have become.

Haven't had a store bought that comes even close to a good ole homemade pie! I can totally understand why they are hated so much due to many folks have never had a homemade one!

Pumpkin is very good as a vegetable, fixed the same way as butternut or acorn squash. If it is made as a pie, it should be a LOT less sweet than is now common.

"Pumpkin spice" is little more than nutmeg and allspice. The array of things being sold now have zero pumpkin in them, just those spices. And sugar. Making something taste vaguely like the pie is marketing, nothing more.

Four thing in life I had no use for: grapefruit, cranberries, coffee and pumpkin. Now 25 years ago I had some whole cranberries get on my turkey and since then I like cranberries. 13 years ago I accidentally grabbed the wrong cup thinking it was tea, it was Dunkin coffee, been hooked ever since. I just don’t ever see grapefruit happening, pumpkin possibly if prepared right.

I've had to give up grapefruit and its juice many years ago due to it messes up a couple medications I take.

Haven't missed it a bit either!

    I like pumpkin as,

    pie

    soup

    fried

    baked

I don't like it polluted with all that candy like flavoring.

waltermoe, I like all those things (huge surprise, huh?). I'm lucky that Pravastatin does not have the grapefruit prohibition.

Tequila and grapefruit juice is one of my favorite cocktails. It's right up there with gin and cranberry juice. Coffee? Well, I was military, so coffee was pilot fuel, and you learned to drink it black.
