Just ordered the Tractive Dog Tracker XL. Does require subscription, but very reasonable. We're in.
Any experience/ knowledge, please share. Thanks
Don’t know anything about them but my grandfather sure would have liked one.
He was a big rabbit hunter. He had a beagle named Hobo. My grandfather said when they were hunting Hobo would get on a rabbit and just keep going and not stop.
He said sometimes they spent as much time looking for Hobo as they did hunting.
i have FI collars on my two coonhounds. Haven’t needed them yet but they seem to work well. When we take them out it gives a pretty accurate location.
I know I would have like to had one on a old girlfriend my gosh she got around while I was working
I know nothing..........
But am interested in other's experiences also..
I never owned any when I had my hunting dogs but I did have a set of those aftermarket Dukes of Hazzard (Dixie) horns in my hunting truck that I would blow every few minutes and then sit still and wait for them to track me down. Hey, it worked......😀

I have a GARMIN ALPHA for tracking the hounds, but why couldn’t you incorporate one of those apple tag things that people are putting in their luggage into a dog collar and track from your phone? Not sure if it requires a subscription.

I looked into that too. Here is what I found;
How far can an AirTag track?
around 30 to 100 feet
AirTags[1] have been tested[2] and shown to have a range of between 10 and 30 meters (around 30 to 100 feet) depending on local environmental conditions and the Bluetooth capabilities of the device to which they are connected.
The unit we are getting has unlimited range, real time location, you can set boundary in the app- when dog goes out of that boundary it sends you an alert. Among other features
If I did that I'd have to kill ya🤨
Rec'd the unit, and wife set it up and activated. She said it was quick and easy.
We drove around tonight with the device only in the truck and Denise track us with the app on her phone.
Sent us an alert that we left the pre designated safe zone (circle around our house, backyard)
Gave our location through GPS in real time, on either map or satellite view.
Indicated street names and business names.
Once tracking, you can share link to others so they can assist in the search/ tracking.
When we returned home, we got an alert of being back in the safe zone.
There are several other functions, travel history, health (tells you dogs raspatory and heart rate), and a few others we haven't played with yet.
We are very impressed with the unit and the service. True, real time GPS mapping.
Hoping we never need to use it.
So we went on a 4 day trip to Spokane, Wa. We boarded Kimber at our Vets ( $25 a night= way bargain). We put her tracking device on her collar and set the Vets kennels to the new 'Safe Zone', 350 sq.ft. which can be adjusted. While in Spokane we were able open the app. and see that she was still in her safe zone. ( we would have received text and e-mail notification as soon as she would leave the area). If it showed no GPS link she was in the building but still within the safe zone. When moved to outside kennel GPS would show her location and her movement. The app would also show step counts. We could also see the battery level of the device. After 4 1/2 days it was at 33% charged. There other things the app will do that we didn't get into like heart rate ect. We were very impressed with the tracker, the company, the app. It really helped wife and I with piece of mind. We fully trust the Vet and staff, but that worry thing gets us, this relieved it a lot.
I need one of those for my wife. I spend a lot of time looking for her.

That's a great little system, Joe. Thanks for all the information.
