I took basic at Ft. Knox, KY in May, 1959. We only went up Misery once. I got a walking fracture, so I missed bivowac. To get around not re-cycling me, I sat through three or four lectures on chemical warfare. We had someone run into one of our guide-ons, so they also had me do the diagrams of "what happened" on the accident report in the orderly room one day. (I was getting married on basic leave, so they bent over backwards to let me graduate with my original group. Also, I was a little older than most, RA, and they knew that I was going to the ASA.)
It was our Platoon Sargeant's first bunch, He was only a E-6 when the others in our company were E-7s.
