Crazy Weather

We live on a lake on west side of Minneapolis, it froze over for the winter just 4 weeks ago (or so I thought). People were out walking on it last Thursday. Temperature went up to 55 on Christmas Eve & 54 Christmas Day (all-time records), with all-day rains - this morning the ice was gone. We've lived here since 1991 and never saw anything this bizarre. Local weatherman said Santa might show up in shorts and a red convertible. What next?

pretty unusual. Always use caution around any 'frozen' body of water. Glad no accidents reported during the thaw.
Been a little warm here in mid-Michigan as well. Our pond has frozen over and thawed about 3 times so far. Mid 50's today and several motorcycles went by on the road. I can't remember the last time I saw any bikes around here past the first of December and back then those were the die-hard guys riding in full snowmobile suits. What worries me is that it all averages out, so it will probably be really crappy before spring gets here. Bob
Been mild here also, but I know what's yet to come. It can hit in the blink of the eye.
Johnny doesn’t go out on that ice anymore, I’ve fell through two different times. When you first go through the ice it’s not that bad at first, but after 2 or 3 seconds, and that water hits the skin, IT IS COLD !!!
I do all my ice fishing anymore at Lake HyVee grocery store. Lol
I can relate, I only went through the ice once...... that was enough for me..
I've live here, Minnesota, for over 50 years and have never seen anything like this. I was up to Bemidji just before Christmas, and Lake Bemidji was still not iced in. crazy!
Four days of rain and some water in cellar. Shutter to think if that had been snow. Global warming? Maybe, maybe not? One more day and NO SNOW this year. -----------Ray
yonson-Not Minatonka by chance? We live on Delavan and they're still fishing it out in boats🤔
We are on Eagle Lake (about 400 acres) in Maple Grove - no ice & there was a fishing boat out there yesterday. Never saw that before. I suspect there will be no ice fishing here this winter. BTW, if Minnesota used Wisconsin's criteria for the definition of a lake, we would have 14,000. When I meet folks from out-of-state, I advise them not to drive at night - if they run off the road they will probably drown.
