I have a chihuahua mix about 10 years old and a Jack Russell shorty about 4 years old.The chihuahua is extremely smart and well behaved. The Jack Russell is typical of the breed, smart but hyper active and has a hard time being still. Both have long been house broken, but lately they have started peeing in the house when we are gone or at night. Its to the point is they are put in their crates at night. We have a large fenced backyard where they roam, chase squirrels and bark at the neighbors cats most of the time during the day when the weather is good. What could have caused them to start peeing in the house and what is the cure?

..health issues that come with age. I would make a Vet appt. to do a blood work up.
One may have issues and the other is just following suit on the peeing cause they can.
Good luck. Let us know outcome.
Agree on the vet.
I think montanajoe nailed it on all counts.
Is the chuhuahua drinking tons of water?
Yes Joe was the first and correct age and/or illness most common cause for the little guy.
Thanks to all. I will get the old guy to the vet ASAP.
Pick up the water at night. We have an older Chihuahua "Pippa" she's sleeps with me and gets me up every night and sometimes she doesn't make it out...

10 years for ankle biting yapper is kind a early to be incontinent but it could happen. My money's on separation anxiety mixed with monkey see monkey do.
"What could have caused them to start peeing in the house and what is the cure?"
Cause: allowing animals in the house.
Cure: stop allowing animals in the house.
That'll be $100 for logic based advice. DVM advice costs extra.
