Anyone who's read Unintended Consequences has known this for forever (John Ross knew his history quite well). The tax stamp you pay for NFA items was intended to keep people from obtaining them, but of course the effect was that only the rich would be able to afford them. Ross, in his book, notes this act illegally created a tiered system of ownership.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

Two tiered justice system as well.
$200 in 1934 is the equivalent to $4726 today. I’m sure someone on the left as been doing the math with intent to make it harder to obtain a tax stamp.
The intent also was to cut down on crime. As you can see another failed attempt by the federal government .
The real attempt was to control the people.
Yes, and in addition to being unconstitutional on many fronts, the NFA will not pass the Bruen test. SC says only guns which are dangerous AND unusual can be regulated. If the NFA had not banned (effectively) machine guns, they would not be unusual.
