Lady I worked with got them at her Credit Union. I am sure they knew the difference and didn't want to be stuck with phony bills.

Counterfeit money is to be turned over to the FBI.... So the bank was lazy and let it slip by. It was probably a bleached bill...

It’s estimated that 1 in every 10,000 bills is counterfeit. I believe most counterfeit money is pasted by people that are unaware that they are passing a counterfeit bill. I did see one of them stage dollars that was passed at a gas station once, I can see how it got passed off as a real bill if someone wasn’t paying attention.

Got a stack of $100s from my bank's ATM. Had one fail the pen test at my local eatery so I tried to deposit it through the ATM at my bank...rejected. Took it inside and the teller ran it through his fancy bill counter...accepted it.

Not sure what it all means, but 1) my waiter acted like I was a criminal, 2) I was pizzed when I thought I might be out a C note, and 3) I hate the extra bulk but I've cut back on $100s and mostly deal in $20s.

I hear that fake $1 bills are for sale in California for 50 cents each. They sell a lot of them to convenience stores that then give them out in change.

Just think how much money the Gov. could save if they stopped printing money and just let the counterfeiters print it for them.

Not sure why the government wastes money printing money anymore. Paper money used to represent a backing by a quantity of gold or silver. But since the 1970s it is backed by nothing but a politician's promise. And the paper money is quickly going out of use. Most transactions are now on some form of a card, or on nothing. How do you get your "paycheck"? Most likely by far, your employer's computer talks to your bank's computer telling it to increase your balance by some number. Same way with Social Security and all other government payments.

But truthful, it's backed by the full faith and credit of our government. Wait ... what did I just say? 😲

Counterfeits are the responsibility of the Secret Service- not FBI.

The detection pens are looking for residue of bleach. Real money is printed on paper only sold to Bur. of Printing and Engraving, paper is made of rag linen and cotton. Never bleached. Everyday paper is made of wood pulp which gets bleached. A bill that has been thru the washer may flunk the pen test but not a scanner test.

Newer $100s will have a strip embedded in paper- hold it up to the light.

Sorry- at one time I used to teach counterfeiting. Really.

We get a lot of " Movie Money" here.

\We've have had a lot of Movies being made locally, with a few Bank heists in the Movies.

Lots of for Entertainment only stuff. that has been, cleaned. You can tell by looking close and with a pen.

Have to watch at the Gun Shows when folks are throwing 100's and 50's quick at ya, in a deal.

Have a a few show up and they just grab them back and give you the real stuff or leave quick. (must know).
