40 S&W in a 41ae pistol

Since the 41ae is dead and buried, could a person shoot 40S&W in the 41ae? I can only find a 10 thousands difference between any of the dimensions including bullet. You might not be able to re-use the casing, but I would think it would function and have reasonable accuracy. Thoughts?

The rim will probably be too big because the 41 has a rebated rim the size of a 9mm. It may not be possible to close the slide on a 40S&W round.

Funny, I have a 41AE EAA Witness - added a 9mm barrel so I could shoot the thing without burning through my 41AE ammo. I was wondering a similar question. If I buy a 40 S&W slide can I use 40 S&W in the 41AE barrel? Would seem so, yes?

You already know that a 41AE won't work in a 40 S&W - but just in case you would like to see: Best Regards - AQH

Bottom line is that it MIGHT function, but won't break any records for accuracy. This is a LAME idea for several reasons, & we won't even discuss case length, nor a new ejector, extractor & magazine here - but the scenario would probably require all 3.

It likely won't properly headspace due to those dimensional differences. It also may not extract, because the .41 AE rim diameter is much smaller @ .394". For comparison, a .40 S&W rim diameter measures .424".

But here's the biggest FUNCTIONAL problem: the .401" S&W bullet will rattle all the way down that bigger .410" bore, so how well does that situation sit with the comment " …… but I would think it would function and have reasonable accuracy"?

Some things shouldn't be, even if you can.

^^^As Gramma used to say, "just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD"

Cheaper and safer to buy a complete .40S&W.
