1911 GI FS
Comments
5, 6 years ago I was playing around on the auction side and bid a little bit of nothing on a Rock Island Armory 1911 in a 10 MM. Surprise, surprise I got myself a 10 MM. I got it so cheap I wasn't bothered by winning the auction. I figured I could peddle it for an easy 200+. No problem, right.
I go to my FFL to pickup what I figure is nothing special. I open up the box and pretty much go wow!! That's nice!!
Outstanding fit and finish. I'm from the era when if you pickup a 1911 and shake it, it rattles and there is slide movement side to side. This is solid, no rattle, no movement side to side!! Hmmm says I. So I buy a box of 10 MM and head out to a place I shoot. I blow the center out of the target!! Hitting right at point of aim. No failures of any kind, no break in needed. I decided right then and there I had myself a keeper!!
This 10 MM is around 3 inches below my hand as I'm typing this in my desk drawer as one of my defensive weapons.
If yours is as good as mine you got a keeper!!
Heard many good things of this inexpensive gun. Haven't shot mine yet. Mine is .45 acp
You're never gonna get that Python if you keep spending your money on cheap junk like that!
Ya know, they did have 2 new pythons in the case. One was 6 inch other was 4. They were both stainless and had 4 digit prices. I pulled out my money and said give this much worth and they put the RIA on the counter.
Picture? 😁

Mine has the black grips, it was $100 cheaper. @Lady Rae
Back when dad bought his there were 3 guns in the counter. Mine, a lady Smith and Wesson and that .45 it was just when Biden became the PINO (President in name only)

Mine is a rebadged Rock Island; a Citadel compact .45. It has really impressed me how reliable and accurate it is.
I know many will disagree, but I don’t think there is a better pistol made than a 1911. I took two WW1 1911s to the range last weekend, and after 100+ years they short as well as the day the were built.
Nice purchase.

Can't go wrong with a Rock Island. I saw a show on Outdoor Channel where they toured the Rock Island/Armscor facilities. They've go their stuff together.
Sounds like your happy so far with it Joe, that's what counts.
Found your Python, @montanajoe !
Holy spotted cows!

Whoa,,,thats like worth 52 Rock Islands
Send it to me, Joe. And I’ll make ya a cutaway !! 😂
could you spring hinge the cut out pieces so they will still be dust covers???
if your gonna shoot it, I think dust would be the least of your worries..........
Whatever ya want, Joe.
Give me a brick and a railroad spike and I’ll make ya a fine watch !! 😉
You guys are killing me! I was all set to buy a SIg 320 and now I have to hear about how good the RIA 1911 is. And I don 't own an 1911. Hmm.........

I purchased a Rock Island 1911 about 5 years ago. It has been reliable and accurate. Make sure and give us a range report !
Very nice example, @Gunnut358 , I really like that.
I love my Rock Islands. Got the “Ultra FS” in .45, 9mm, and 10mm. All are fantastic. Tremendous value.
You made me look. I have the same as M Joe. It was 391 OTD at an auction.
It's a sweet pistol for the price. I carry it in a Bulldog holster. One mag in, two spares in the front pouch. The "fear no evil" combo.
........and I STILL need to drag out the RI 22TCM Target, that I just had to have a few years ago.........for some blasting/plinking. 🙄😇
Ended up with RI 1911 in 22Mag as part of a trade. Was told it was made in the Philippines. Range session with almost every brand & weight bullet was flawless. Love the heft and 1911 feel, very satisfied with this one.
I also have one of the 22 Mags as well. What @chiefr said - in addition, I tried rapid fire magazine dumps to see if it would run the entire magazine without any hiccups - it ran like a Singer sewing machine every time.

Sorry to resurrect a stale thread here, but I'm curious about something.
Given the experience with the Rock Island 1911, how would you say the trigger compares to other 1911s such as Springfield Armory or Kimber? I ask because I shot a Springfield Armory 1911 in 45 ACP the other day and it was fantastic. If the RIA 1911 is that good, I'm in for Rock Island.

Kevin, mine, as far as I can tell, is just as good as any Springfield I've ever owned. Some older Kimbers I've shot were probably nicer, but they should be, as a couple of them were triple the price of an RIA such as mine. I can't speak for newer Kimbers or even Springfields, but if you're tempted to get an RIA, I doubt you'll end up sorry for it.
Kevin,
The triggers on all three of mine are fantastic. Light, crisp…. I honestly cannot imagine that they could be any better. I wouldn’t know what to improve on. Mine are the “Ultra” versions. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Yeah, but are they as good as a Glock with a 25 cent trigger job and a 3.5 pound connector? Huh? Are they that good?
Well, let’s be honest……nothing beats a Glock!
I like vintage cars too….but I’d rather drive a Toyota cross-country.
