High School mascots....

New York State has come down on high school mascots that they deem offensive. Our local school has been told to drop the " Indian" mascot for something else...maybe a turnip. Another local suburban school has willingly jumped on this bandwagon and has dropped their school mascot...The Raiders. I'm not sure which Raiders, Indians, Vikings...etc.
After much thought and deliberation they have come up with the new school mascot....that they're very, very proud of..... The Wolf Pack....yup. The Wolf Pack. Now they are choking on their coffee when it was pointed out to them that during WWII the German Navy called groups of U-boats, Wolf Packs.
The school song will now be the sound track to the German movie Das Boot......Alaaaaaarm!!

Highland Falls, NY football team was called Indian Raiders and mascot was a Indian Chief. Lot of controversy back about 20 years ago. Not sure how that finally turned out. Highland Falls is right outside South Gate (Thayer) at West Point.
Socialist (Communist) in NY State know no bounds. King Cuomo took away Indians name for Tappan Zee bridge and gave it his dad's name Mario.
Flags have come down all over South and Statues removed. Right around corner where I went to Junior High on Monument Avenue in Richmond, General Lee's Statue was removed. At West Point they spent a ton of money to remove Lee. Lee Rd, Lee Gate and on and on. Truly amazing. Offered command of Northern Army. Second in his class at the Point, never received a Demerit.
One wonders, how long before they start piling up the books and burning them like Hitler?--------------Ray
Fisher, Illinois' mascot is a Bunny !! The Fisher Bunnies.. I guess they won't be happy until we are all warm and fuzzy even in our athletic teams !
Native American tribes have just recently come up with the justifiable complaint that they never asked for these actions, and they strongly object to them on the grounds that removing all evidence of them is tantamount to genocide.
I agree with them. The "woke" are "disappearing" our red brothers.
The college town near me, their high school mascot was the Indians. I don't know if the Pakistani population complained or what. Now they are the Bruins.
The next town over, their mascot is, get this, Blue Demons.
My high school mascots are the Warriers , complete with featured headdress. Keep wondering how much longer it will last .
A Turnip isn't a bad thing to have as a mascot... Here she is
"Independence Now, Independence Forever."
John Adams
My high school was known as the Cougars. You can fill in your own jokes.
🇺🇲 "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson 🇺🇲
How many army bases that were named after Confederate Generals have changed names? I heard of Fort Moore but have no idea what it was formerly named.
Fort Benning. Don
Wasn't Fort Bragg changed to Fort Liberty?
"Independence Now, Independence Forever."
John Adams
We still call it fort Bragg!
Since 1930 Sault Ste. Marie has had Sault High Blue Devils.
Correct Lady Rae. Cousin is CSM there but most consider themselves stationed at Ft. Bragg no matter what the rest of the world thinks. ---------------------Ray
Hermitage Panthers in Henrico County. My 11th grade Eng/Lit teacher was a real Cougar Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Three out of four years while i attended, Virginia State Football Champions. I just had to do a little bragging. -----------------------Ray
Another interesting one.....
Teutopolis High School Wooden Shoes
Hope the Dutch do not get mad about this one.......
My high school mascot was and is the yellow jackets
my kids school was pirates but some time back at the start of the woke crap shoot both my sone have been out of school for years now
but they were being pushed to become more PC correct I don't recall if they ever did but I know the push was on to make the mascot less pirate less menacing
Now I will have to do some searching see what came of it I donrt know if they parents said oh no we wont
"They" changed the name of Fort Hood, Texas.
When I worked there, in the mid-80's, it was the largest Army installation in the country.
The new name???.........can't recall.......and don't care to.😠
My old high school team was and still is, The Traverse City "Trojans"
I could say more but........😯
Along with my high school
(see above)
, that makes for an interesting Friday night matchup!🇺🇲 "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson 🇺🇲
We were the Indians.
A couple of years ago, due to a new state dictate, they became the Screaming Eagles or something like that.
Stupid stuff.
Brad Steele
My high school were the Pioneers, but since it was in East St Louis, we might as well have been the Convicts. In my senior class (of only 150) there were four who got 20 years and two who got life - before graduation. Tough school.
My nieces go to T-Town.
My high school was the Locomotives. At one time it was a railroad town.
Kind of hard to complain about the Locomotives.
The "woke" are steamed up already.
Let’s hope they get derailed!
We were the Prospectors. I'm sure some twisted-panty lib would be upset with that for some reason.
As you go west into the Rockies on I-70 you pass thru Idaho Springs. Part of the Clear Creek school district, the high school teams are know as The Gold Diggers. 🤣

Brookwood, I understand that their football & basketball teams were known for their defense.
I heard a suggestion when the Washington Redskins was going to have to change names.
It was suggested that as an honor to our politicians in the White House that they might think about changing the name to the WASHINGTON FORESKINS.
I would say a foreskin has quite a bit of value, politician from DC, not much.
Hereford, Texas, called their team "Whitefaces" for the Hereford cattle markings- wonder if they're still using that.
A town near where I grew up were the Pekin Chinks........
In 1981 it was changed to the Pekin Dragons... When I was a kid, we used to go skate at the * Rink...

Rebels at both of my high schools
Do you still live there William81? I grew up in Peoria and was a Central Lion.
As my wife and I were discussing this woke silliness over mascots and team names, she made an interesting observation.
There are a lot of pirates around here. And the team cartoonized character, often painted on the gym wall, is almost always holding a knife. Usually a bloody knife at that.
Can you even imagine? A knife depicted in school. I guess, at least it's not a gun.
ah yes, the renowned winner of the 1964 IHSA state championship. Dave Golden was the star who went on to a fine college career at Purdue. they defeated a Cobden team[maybe 100 students] but who fielded a team of a 6-7 center and 6 players of 6-4+. the high school coach left Cobden following the school year to take the job at Nashville High School where he amassed IHSA Hall of Fame awards in both coaching sports and Officiating careers.
to add to the theme of this topic, my favorite mascot/nickname goes to the Hoopeston-East Lynn[Illinois] Cornjerkers
Left for college in 1977 and never moved back..... Still have family in the area
I left for college (UW) in '58 and never went back except to visit family and my main squeeze. Been in Indy since and 42 years ago I got out of the hood and moved 25 miles west. I still go by on my way to Sturgis and always stop at Agatucci's.
I was a Eureka Hornet !! We moved to Northern Illinois and lived there for over 30 years. We retired and moved to the farm in MO... Still run though the Peoria area to see family and friends. Then I hightail it out of there !!
