Fixed my Blu Ray player
For a while now my player would maybe play Blu Ray disc. It would say the disc might be dirty or other nonsense. So I finally got fed up and took the screw driver to the silly thing. I Q-Tipped the lens, picked out the dust bunnies and Q-Tipped the rubber spinny thing.
The silly thing had two screws in the back and some clips holding the face cover on. So there wasn't much to it. The disc reader was held by two screws. Again not much there. Popped the reader cover off and saw some dust on the lens screw drivers and in the corners. Put some 90% rubbing alcohol (the good stuff) on the Q-Tip and rubbed the lens. Didn't see much on the Q-Tip. Then I Q-Tipped the rubber gasket. Which made the Q-Tip black.
I think the Blu Ray being heavier than the DVD and the black gunk made the Blu Ray disc slip as it spun? Either way it works fine now.

I have to give you credit Yosh for fixing a machine that often gives me fits! When mine will often tell me that it can't read the disc that I gently placed in the feed tray!
I broke down and bought a DVD cleaner disc and like magic!! Cured the problem!
The cleaner also has taught me several foreign languages that speak as the thing does its work. Probably because the speaker has a very soft, very sexxy, feminine voice! 😁
I bought a DVD cleaner disc not too long ago but it mentioned not to use it on Blu Ray players. So that was a monkey in the wrench and that made me take the wrench to my player.
I was going to ask what size/type of hammer you used.
I was going to ask it it was a framing hammer, finish hammer, ball peen, drywall hammer, brass, or no bounce?

So far when I put in Blu Ray disc in it plays without issues or the odd vibration noise I used to get. I need to dig out "Cosmos" that was giving me fits to see that play.
My blue ray player seems to prefer regular DVD's. It takes several in and out disc repetitions to get a blue ray to play. It's a Sony. The Panasonic upstairs plays every disc it gets.
Yeah mines a Sony 3500? Also had no issues playing DVD so I was slow to break it open.
