Not really. 150 years is less than an eyeblink to geology.

Volcanoes are classified as "active" if they've erupted in the last 100,000 years, for example.

    Here's a geologist's analysis…

I realize you probably remember the last quake there, but for most of us, a once in a lifetime event makes it unusual or rare occurrence.

I was in one earthquake once. I was at the airport with a student in the flight room. I remember a small vibration, I thought someone was closing the hanger door. But the student I was with looked at me and said, “that’s an earthquake” I think it was only around a 3.7 they said. I don ‘t think I never would have known it if he hadn’t said anything.

Growing up in Missouri where earthquakes are more common/ frequent, I experienced several.

Now living in Montana, earthquakes are pretty much continuous. We have felt several over the last 40 years.

No surprise, it's called the "Ramapo Fault". It basically follows Rt. 202 through northern NJ.

I think it was August 2011 they had a earthquake that registered 5.8 on the scale in Louisa County, Virginia. The epicenter was in Mineral which is very close to Town of Louisa.

My uncle Jack restores Mustangs in Apple Grove which is very near Mineral. I went to school there in seven room school house starting in 49-50. Quite a few things fell off the wall in his five bay shop but no major damage.

Dad was sitting by the well outside the sunroom in my second home in Kent's Store Virginia, Fluvanna County. The epicenter was about 9 miles away. I have a few cracks in sheetrock near top of doors but no major damage. Dad thought the world was coming to and end.

The biggest damage was in masonry buildings in Mineral and Louisa. A lot of those beautiful old buildings pre-date the Civil War and the ones with real tall brick chimneys lost their chimneys and when they came crashing down they caused a lot of damage. A lot of folks had damage to their HW heaters and wells.

My wife Diane was sitting on the sofa in the TV room and got this funny look on her face and said to me "the whole house is moving". It is 430 miles from my sofa in Monroe, NY to Dad's well in Kent's Store, Fluvanna County. That's a whole lot of shaking going on. It was a miracle that a lot of people were not killed.

Within two weeks I got a letter from my Homeowners Insurance saying that earthquakes are not covered and if you wanted it you would have to pay for it. A lot of folks had major damage that was not covered. ———————-Ray
