Workers at a VW plant in Tennessee vote 73% to join the UAW.

Probably voting themselves out of a job, only winners will be the fat cats at the top of the union, at least until they move the plant elsewhere….
The Volvo truck plant near here has been union almost from the get go. They opened in 1975 under the name "White Trucks".
A few years ago, Volvo bought Mack trucks. Recently, Volvo announced they were building a Mack plant in Mexico.
One grandson and one granddaughter Recently go jobs with Volvo. When granddaughter went forpre employment testing, 80 had been called but only 26 showed up.
Like every other business, they can't get people to work.
There were almost no unions here in the south.I really never knew much about the subject except there was a good chance you would be fired from your job if you ever said anything about the union. The only unions around here that I knew of were the UPS guys and elevator mechanics. My son went to work part time at UPS for starvation wages when he was still in high school. He was at work every day and worked hard and pay raises came pretty fast. In 2 years he was almost full time and was making 25 bucks an hour.It took me 50 years to earn 25 bucks an hour. He is still at UPS and I think their next raise will be just under $50. an hour and free health insurance for them and their family. The unions have done well for some.
There goes the neighborhood…
Quality of VWs has never been great and they are not good sellers. Now that the UAW has taken hold, VW will start circling the drain.
Diesel Gate and now with uaw? I reckon they'll be heading further South to concentrate on South American market. maybe the illegals will go South, too? Since I reckon the government freebies will dry up, soon?
GM plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, is all UAW.
Unions, for the most part, are nothing but bloated money grubbing entities very similar to the Govt! They protect sorry workers, DEMAND more and more and more for "their workers" all while the top union dogs become millionaires!
Unions, just like Govt, started out with good intentions and for very good reasons. That has slowly but surely turned into a corrupt system(again, think Govt or mob).
I have personally seen exactly what I've described above. Union protecting "workers" that refuse to even come to work, or ones caught stealing, doing drugs, etc etc. I have NEVER seen a union president that didnt make 10 times what their "workers" make!
That said, I am sure there are a few good unions around still, and some that really are needed. But MOST of them are bloated money making systems.
^^ and they have manifested themselves in the Federal Government.
