For me, it means allergies flare up to nasty levels.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Fired in butter, kilt branch lettuce with small garden onions, fresh caught trout, Feast for a king.

My son and nephew went out a couple late afternoons ago. Both came back with a nice sack of morels each and both were totally covered in TICKS!!!
I did not know ticks liked mushrooms. Don
That is for sure about the ticks. I got a feeling this year is going to be bad for them. Also wild onions are up all over, they have a good onion flavor.
WhT the hell is kilt branch lettuce?
Ticks, lilac, mushroom's and kilt branch lettuce?
Are you sure this isn't @yoshmyster s thread?

every year when I smell the lilacs blooming, my backside from my knees to my shoulder and forearms hurt as My dear departed Mothers favorite switch was a 3’ long lilac sucker, which she wielded it with the same tenacity and accuracy of a blind woman trying to kill a rattlesnake with a stick.
Heaven knows the many lickings I got, were only out numbered by the ones I didn’t get, but should have.

Kilt branch lettuce.
Hillbillie food, Folks in WNC are blessed with it. A type of lettuce and one of the earliest plants to show up in the spring and of course is found in wet areas such as branches, cricks to some folks.
KIlt or killed, as proper folks would say, is to fry up some manna(bacon) and pour the hot grease over the lettuce, very good. Baby spinach and or garden lettuce is also tasty.
Be sure lettuce is dry, ya'll know what hot grease and water does. Ouch.
Some folks kill it with vinegar and buttermilk, yuck.
Grew up in the country, flatlands of rural eastern nc . I had relatives who only got indoor plumbing in late 68. Never heard of kilt lettuce .
Went for a five mile hike Sunday, looking for morels. Didn't find any mushrooms but we did find lots of hungry black flies. They bit the crap out me around my eyes and hair line.
Branch lettuce is native to western NC mountains and north east TN.
Pert near the promised land.
Most often like spring lizards it requires very clean water.
Everyone that ate morels in 1850 is dead today. I ain't takin' the chance.
Okay, found a couple by our pond.
They are about five inches tall, and still seem to be growing.
Two ain't gonna make a side dish or anything, so I marked the spot and left them alone.
I'm not eating anything covered in ticks

This is what I’ve been talking about.
The onions almost have a shallot flavor. May try using the bulbs in a risotto, their great in twice backed potato’s .
