I was at a neighbors cookout Sunday and a New Jersey visitor talked to me about his problems...
owning guns in N.J.
One of his concerns was he can jump through the hoops and buy guns but he is afraid he will buy something that N.J. will make illegal after the fact and there he is , no guns, no protection.
Protection is the main reason he wants to own a few guns, but again he is concerned with them being taken from him.
Here was my advice.
No semi-autos. No "black" guns. Nothing that sounds bad like 12 gauge, 00 buck, nothing that looks "dangerous" in case a neighbor sees it.
These were my choices for him. Shotgun. Mossburg 20 gauge model 500 (?) youth model 24 inch vent rib barrel, with multiple chock tubes, wood stock, loaded with 20 gauge buckshot. I guess I should add this guy isn't the biggest guy out there. Different choke tubes so he can go trap shooting and get good with his 20 gauge. I have one of these, I really like it!
Rifle. A lever action 30-30. A Marlin 336, or a Henry or a Winchester 94. These are cowboy guns, as unthreatening as you can get. Luckily the libs don't know these were the original assault rifles. A lever action 22 rifle to teach the wife and kids to shoot with the same non scary look to it.
Handgun. Any good quality 4" or 6" barreled double action revolver in 357 so he can practice with 38Sp. A nice 4 or 6 inch 22 revolver. The 22 to take to the range, again to teach wife and kids how to shoot his double action revolver.
I think I covered all the bases in a way that are about as far down the list of guns that might be banned as possible.
Your opinions. Where could I have done better??
I wonder if he will take any of this advice. He was "writing" this down in his phone.

I dont like saying this but there are no gun rights in DEMOCRAT controlled NJ.
Pretty good advice.
Sounds good to me. Sounds like you put some real thought and attention into your advice. 👍️

What no pellet rifle? I hear there are advances in the .30 Cal.
Democrats want sheeple who bow down to them nothing more
New Jersey is something else. A 75 year old antiques dealer bought a flintlock pistol at an estate sale. The gun was made in England in 1715. Cops saw it in his glove box at a traffic stop, he was arrested and charged with a serious felony. The DA finally dropped charges, but, that gun was a felony according to New Jersey law.
I believe a bb gun is legally a "firearm" in New Jersey.
If you keep re electing idiots you keep getting idiotic laws passed.
YUP! I also place the blame on PORK. It seems that every worthwhile bill that needs to be passed only gets done with a lot of added nonsense that has NO business being there! They've been calling that stuff PORK, but it is a shame that the poor pigs get tagged on this.
Good point, @yoshmyster . There are some amazing air rifles available in 30 and even 50 cal.

THere was an episode of the Sopranos where Tony tossed a pistol in the snow, it was loaded with hollow points. An eyewitness was ratting Tony out and he faced serious jail time.
I know, fictional tv show, but based on the truth, Jersey will burn you for hollow points.
. A pellet and/or BB gun is considered a firearm in New Jersey and all of the firearm laws apply to them. This means that the purchase of a pellet gun or bb gun in New Jersey requires a Firearm Identification Card. It also means that there are strict laws regulating the transport of them in a vehicle; the same laws that apply to the transport of any firearm.
Because a pellet gun is a firearm in New Jersey, you could face serious consequences for shooting a pellet gun in your back yard.
If he is from NJ and concerned he needs to move and probably re-register.
And if he don't move he needs to stop and think before he votes again.
Guns are dangerous and that is why I have them.

Well. I didn't know that. I mean, by definition it isn't a firearm
but who cares about rules when you don't care about the country?

I think sling shots are banned there
Thought out, explained, advise.

Read this story about the New Jersey guy and the 250 year old flintlock pistol. Unreal. Some crazy Yankees making up the laws there in Yankeeland.
I mostly agree with your choices. However, I would recommend a 12 gauge over a 20 gauge. More ammo selection and less expensive. I would specifically recommend a Mossberg or Maverick Field / Security Combo, 2 barrel set.
Mossberg 500:

Maverick 88:

The 20 gauge could be deemed "just as evil" as the 12 gauge.
I would add a semi-auto 9mm pistol to the revolver. Yes it might get banned, confiscated, etc. Fall back on the revolver.
Customer bought a brown old civil war revolver cap and ball from FFL in nj need my fll to get it,when it got here I just handed it to him no law here
