Insurance question.

On the G.B. order statement it reads $1309.35 total payable. The seller has contacted me and asked if I want to add insurance and signature required upon delivery. I have never been asked to add insurance before on my nearly 100 purchases. I assumed that insurance was included in the $48.00 shipping fee. Is this legit? In his Correspondence, he also used green font and capital letters. Am I being too critical??? Thanks, Ed

the 'extra' for insurance should have been stated in the description for the auction.
We have something about added insurance for anything that sells for more than $1000 in our listings. I have no clue how much something will sell for or what shipping is going to cost. A $4000 item that ships to Alaska is going to cost 3X whatever we have listed as the shipping cost, so we have in our listings that we will ship it for whatever the listed cost is….but if it needs additional funds to cover insurance that is up to the buyer.
A side note….all insurance is useless when it comes down to it though. Not one company will pay for the damage they do. We have a private policy which does cover things, but there is a $1000 deductible. So, it would have to be pretty significant to be worth filing a claim.
