Help with Remington codes

B17-P51B17-P51 Member Posts: 2,259 ✭✭✭

I am trying to date a Remington 760 in 35 Remington

The codes are as follows P YY G

The initial coding is easy P= 6 = June / YY = 1952

There is a repair oval on the right side of the barrel.

Can I then assume (BTW I hate that word!) the G is for 1960?

Thanks for any help in advance!!

Your Gamemaster was made from 1952 to 1967 for 35 Remington, so it was made during the first year of production. Yes the G is for 1960, but it could also have gone back to the factory for the repair in 1986, as letter codes for Remington repeated themselves. Or the barrel could have been changed at that point to cause a new code to be stamped on the barrel, as I would think a minor repair would not require a code to be stamped.

I have no idea what the G would indicate but on the Remington date codes the first letter is the month and the second letter/letters are the Year. Most likely June of 52.
