nine days on new right knee. Walked around nurses station first day, not fun. Got to get it right by bow season.

Have had three total knee replacemnts since 2020. First one went bad after 2 years and had to be replaced . Was up and walking the day of surgery each time . Recovery was tough as the very first one got infected and had to be immobilized for over 2 weeks . Third and final was a breeze .
Two hips, and a right knee. We are 10 years out now, and these things are AWESOME. In 2013, I was almost to the point of being in a wheel chair. Hang in there. pretty soon you'll wonder why you didn't get it replaced sooner.
I've never had one done, but those that I know that have swear by using a stationary bicycle for exercise and to work on range of motion for their new knees.
UPDATE Pay no attention to my post .I got carried way and wasnt paying attention to the timeline you posted The info may help someone else getting ready to do it .For your first , pay attention to the docs advice on pain management .DO NOT let the pain get ahead of the meds
Ice is your friend. Have the doc give you an ice machine for home use. If you have an elevated handicapped toilet to use it will be to your advantage . A power lift recliner rental will be money well spent . A walker is almost mandatory. Oh and a couple of urinals are worth their weight in gold .DO the ordered physical therapy and look into joining a gym even after the period of pt
Heal daily. Best wishes.
Some turn out great and some don't. Be very happy that yours is good cause if it's not, you're still stuck with it for the rest of your life.
I 'fired' my ortho surgeon 6 weeks after my hip replacement and cuss him often. I talked to my GP Doctor about the recurring pain just a few days ago. He said it shouldn't be that way after 4 years but nothing can be done.😒
I had TKR in 2008. It went well.
Get a stationary bike and ride for 30 minutes daily, and, do all the other therapy, very important.
Hello, Mr. Vicodin, good Lord what a painful procedure, pain for about 3 months.
I hope all goes well for you….keep us up to date..
My Ortho Doc told me I am going to find myself with a couple new ones as time goes by. I hit the gym three days a week focusing on trying to keep them going for as long as I can !!
In 2020, I had TKR on my left knee in February, and right knee in July. I was 74, and the doctor told me that if I wanted to recover and walk normally again, I would have to go to the physical therapy appointments EVERY time I was scheduled. I'm glad I listened to him! I don't have any pain or stiffness in either knee four years later, and can walk up to 2 miles now without stopping.
My SIL's Dad is going to the same surgeon next month and I told him to not skip the PT because I believe that's the reason I'm doing so good. Told him the first few sessions will be painful as hell, but to work through it.
Made it two weeks now, a little better every day. Made 105 degrees bend, 35 staples out, gotta force yourself to do the required exercises, hoping no infection, not anxious to do the other knee yet LOL. Water pill I take keeps me moving. No way one could do this without a good nurse helping. Wife is getting more tired than I am. Doc says should be close to painfree in six weeks and then normal.
Not to make light of your situation, but I need a new neck. I'm hoping that by the time I am completely crippled they will come up with some cool techniques to help me out.
Glad you are feeling better though.
Nothing medically related seems to come without some sacrifice.
I was awash in pain for 3 months. I hope it lasts only six weeks for you.
I took rooster comb injections for seven years, hoping the new science would get me off the hook but not covered by insurance or recomended.yet. Good luck with your neck. When we didnt live long enough to get these problems we were not discussing them. Im 82 so I hope its worth it.
I am almost 10 years out on 2 hips and a knee. They are phenomenal pieces of equipment. The only people I personally know who had poor success with a joint replacement are the ones who DID NOT do therapy per the doctor's prescription.
The Pt is the key to getting the most out of the joint. Got to keep pushing all the way .Good for you
Three weeks and Im walking without a cane! Two more weeks of PT up to 115 degrees. Can kinda sleep on my side in bed and can drive. No pain pills needed, just Tylenol plus. First two weeks are kind of a *, but I can see the light.
Keep up the good work!!!! One little victory after another! 👍️

Yer gaining ground, keep pushing!
Glad to hear your recovery is going well, keep it up!
Good news.
Had a friend that had it done, he seems to get around pretty well today.
Hoping you have a fast recovery.
Great.
Using PT is critical. Before and after surgery. Before to build up the muscles prior, and after well you know…..
I did find that using a pillow next to my foot, kept it from allowing my knee to twist in the night . did that for about 3 months.
Took Allens advice and went and picked up a stationary bike. We will see how it works if I dont fall off!
I put many miles on that bike, sitting on my porch. Doc said that was the best physical therapy.
I cant make the bike go all the way around, but it sure helps, I got on the John Deere and got the lawn mowed. That was a milestone.
