Abusive Buyer Problem

I need the group's advice as to whether I handled this situation correctly. I have never had this problem before. I am the seller. Thanks for your input.

Buyer purchased ammunition and paid by credit card. I sent an email thanking him and advising that I would ship by Fedex with adult signature required. Buyer wanted ammunition shipped with no signature. I politely refused and explained why signature was needed. Buyer is upset.

Here is the email chain:

We have received your order. We appreciate your business. Your ammo will ship Monday, May 20, 2024 via Fedex Ground Home Delivery with adult signature required for delivery. We will send a tracking number when the item is shipped. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Buyer 5/18/2024 3:24 PM

I never asked for a signature to be required. Nobody's going to be there I work all day everyday. Need to make other arrangements please.

Thank you,

Ammunition is categorized as "dangerous goods."  There are very specific  requirements for shipping. Fedex and UPS both require an adult signature  for shipment of ammunition. I have no choice, and neither Fedex or UPS will accept an ammunition shipment otherwise.  When Fedex tries to make delivery they will leave a door tag. You can then request that they deliver on Saturday, or you can pickup the package at a Fedex location near where you live. The information at this link explains the process: .I am sorry for the inconvenience but there is nothing I can do to circumvent the Fedex and UPS requirements.

I don't give a dad gone I order ammunition all the time nobody is ever there to sign for it take it back and give me my money back

Or you can just leave it at the UPS store for me at the local UPS in Murray.

Sorry you are upset. I have never seen or heard of ammunition or firearms delivered without a signature. Even if Fedex allowed it, I am sure you can see the potential problems if your order is never delivered or if it is stolen from your porch.

The additional terms of sale for this listing state we will not change the address on the shipment after the sale and that we can only ship to your credit card address. The terms also state: "If you buy or win a listing and you are in a state that we do not or cannot ship to or if you change your mind or want to cancel for any other reason, a claim will be filed against you through Gunbroker. This is a requirement by Gunbroker. Gunbroker gets a commission on each sale we make. In order to have Gunbroker refund that commission, Gunbroker requires us to file a claim. They will then void the transaction, refund the commission back to us, and you will receive a strike against your account. Accumulate too many strikes and your account will be suspended or permanently removed."

If you wish,  I will refund your payment, less the Gunbroker charges of $9.80 plus a $25.00 cancel fee. If this is your choice, I will simply cancel the order with no adverse affects.  Otherwise, I will fill your order and ship on Monday to your Gunbroker address with signature confirmation as required by Fedex.

What a *, I just asked for my money back. Are you going to tell me exactly when you're going to be here so I can make sure somebody's here? No, you're not. I see nothing wrong with your handling of the situation, you were actually very polite and upfront about everything.

Remember "There's at least one in every crowd" this one is yours. Good luck

P.S. I've had to sign for every ammo delivery I've ever received and I'll bet he did too.

You handled that very well. Another welcome to the forums, stick around.

One thing though, If your terms of sale do not explicitly state "adult signature required so be at listed address when carrier arrives. Or have other arrangements in place." They should be plainly put in your sale text. This leaves these kind of people with no wiggle room.

If you quoted the buyer exactly, then I don't trust them. There are several problems & inconsistencies that cause me to question their legitimacy. Good Job & let us know how it worked out.

When I'm tracking on-line UPS and I think maybe FedEx packages I have the option of signing on-line.

I'm subbed to auto tracking on both of these carriers and also USPS on-line for auto updates.

I have it marked to leave the package at the front door.

I live in a rural dirt road area and I asked my friendly UPS guy that I visit with what he does to some of my packages that REQUIRES a signature and he does not see anyone at the delivery place. He said I sign them for you. I thanked him and we went on talking/visiting about other things.

I do not know the Fed Ex guys so they might have to make a return trip if I do not sign on-line.

Will Rogers never met the guy you are describing. (He said he never met anyone he did not like, but he was a politician when he said that)
