House painting .................. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

What a PITA. First thing they do is pressure wash then caulk, when that is done they bag (tape semi clear plastic over all the windows and glass doors, it has now been six days since we were able to see out of our windows and it's really starting to affect me.

Hadn't rained here for two and a half months BUT the rainy season started the same day the painters did and it's been work a day rain a day ever since. The crew is nice and have been good to work with but I still want this over and them gone. I've had to run interference for all of my landscaping every day because the painters just want to cut everything either down or back so far that they won't recover in order to make their job easier ……………… it didn't happen however because with just a modicum of thought and ingenuity other solutions didn't require mass destruction of very expensive landscaping.

They originally wanted to paint over all of my pool equipment piping, wiring, control and power boxes (faster and easier for them) I had to put my foot down paint on on that one. I told them that for over $10,000. I didn't really care if it was difficult because the job is the job and no tradesman (myself included) wants their work painted over. any future work or repairs would require that the first thing done would be scraping paint off of everything so they will hand paint around all of the equipment and wiring.

The house will look great when they're done but getting there has surely been stressful. with any luck, most of the painting will be complete by weeks end and then they have to start on the pool deck.

Glad this isn't a yearly thing.

Yes, have to watch them painters like a Hawk. I've been there. they will paint over model numbers, reference numbers. I've seen them sandblast seals out of gear boxes and paint over labels on equiipment even after being told several times not to do so. (and they usually apologize afterwards if they have not been paid yet)

When I was a teenager we had a brick house that had a few areas that needed painting every few years…..garage doors, eves, trim. My dad made sure to have it done without telling my mom. She'd come home and it would be a work in progress with a small team knocking the job out. She'd be all mad about it because she had always wanted to "pick a new color"……dad wasn't risking that, but he wasn't having that argument either. It was always dark brown. My mom was a bit "extra"…..no telling what color it would have been if she had her way.

When I was a teenager, I worked summers painting schools. A friend's father had the contract to paint most of the schools in the county. Most of the crews were teens like me, had to be at least 16, with a few experienced guys and a supervisor. There was no spraying. Brushes, and sometimes rollers. We used the best brushes and had a sash tool, a four inch, and a six inch. His family had been in business since 1869. He knew wth he was doing. He had many other crews painting houses and commercial buildings. So I learned from the best. If you are old like me you may remember very old school buildings with large windows and many many panes. I learned on those things how to trim a window. We didn't use masking tape, we trimmed those things with a sash tool. We used a chalk line to paint straight lines in a hall where enamel was used on the bottom and latex on the top half. I could paint those lines with a 4 in. brush. Needless to say, no one has ever painted my homes but me. If you know how, it's not that hard, and you don't hate it as much. In fact, I always liked to paint. And stain.
