Memorial Day weekend thoughts and plans

Kevin_LKevin_L Member Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭✭

I am proud to be an American. Everything I have, everything I am is because of American values and the opportunities available to everyone. It is a great country with great people.

I fly the American flag every day. There are lots of people in my neighborhood that do. And I don't mind that some folks only put out a flag for Memorial Day though I wish they'd give a little more thought as to why the day and the stars & stripes are so important.

I was never in the military and my dad never talked about his Army days. I don't know anyone who was killed serving our country but I know a lot of people who have served and were changed by the commitment. I will say a prayer of thanks for the fallen and a prayer of help for those that struggle because of what they experienced.

Not being one of the "retired and loving it" crowd, a 3 day weekend is a great opportunity for me to get some rest and get some extra range time. I plan to do both. In between assignments from my better half, of course. 😁

Wishing all of you a great weekend and sub-MOA groups. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Saturday Morning out to set out Flags at the Cemetery for Veterans. 8-10AM

Then off to Brewery for a fund raiser f or a local Veterans organization. 10-2 My VFW Post time slot

Already have Two Flags Flying, at the home place. a 25"pole 3x5 at the shop and a 40"pole 3x5 at home ( I'll change that to a 5x8). Then set some smaller ones out along the fence line.

Sunday off Early to the Family Grave Yards and Back in time to watch the INDY 500.

Afternoon Cookout (and watch the race) at MIL place (no beer). Always said the KY Derby was a one beer race and the 500 was a six pack or two. I always get in trouble with that here in Ky, but I'm From Indiana.

Monday Downtown Cemetery Ceremony for Veterans.

Dad, Uncles, Nephew, BIL, and Wife and Myself have all served.

One never made it. Rest in Peace Cousin Jimmy

When I was a kid in the Boy Scouts we put flags on all the graves of the veterans at the local cemetery. I always looked forward to it.

We are thinking about putting my Grampa's casket flag back up on the side of the house and putting flowers (red white and blue of course) on Fernbridge if we can get them made up. One year I got two beautiful buckets with flowers and flags in the middle… we will see.
