30-06 Black tip AP projectiles

UNIQUEGUNUNIQUEGUN Member Posts: 1

I would like to find out what is actually in the core of a black tip .308 diameter projectile. I weighed one and got a 162 grains reading. As I understand these bullets were likely pulled from 30-06 rounds. I believe I have read that these cores were at different times, tungsten, moly alloy hardened steel, just hardened steel, hardened steel with a lead core. Seems to me that tungsten was only used in the 40's. I have some of these bullets listed on GB and someone asked if they were SL or LC, is there a reliable way to distinguish were the projectiles came from? I have some 30-06 black tip rounds, according to to a label outside the ammo can, in addition to the headstamp (FN 67) it should be FN. Is one maker preferable over another? I don't want mislead anyone should they buy these items from me. If you really know please let me have an answer. Thank you
