Gunsmithing.......I admire those with the skills to do it right !

I finally found a local gunsmith that was willing to put a set of night sights on a Kimber. The front sight came off and the new one went on without any issues… The real sight however was hard to watch them work on. He finally got it off and they had to work on the rear sight to fit it into the cut. I really admire the work the smith did.

I have never seen a sight pusher like the one he was using… Now that I have found someone with the right tools and skills, I guess I may have to replace a few more sets !!!!!

Yes, the right tools do make a difference. Sometimes it is the only way.

Still looking for a decent actual gunsmith near me… all I've found is ex-cop wanna-bees….they are ok for some minor things, but can't do anything that requires real skill…

I was happy to find this gentleman….. There used to be another one in the area but he closed down.. I had him replace some sights on a brand new SA 1911… He boogered the slide up so bad I ended up buying a different one…. The right guy and the right tools makes all the difference

Many years ago like close to 50 yrs

I knew a old gun Smith easy going always backed up on work load

I last had him reblue a gun for me after that I just started doing my own general repairs and up grades most tools are easy to get and the cost is way less than paying someone toto the work . Granted their is so much out of my league I wouldn't try

With that said buying the tools is like like buying a set of high end golf clubs just because you have them don't make you or me good lol

I am not even sure it there is " real " gun smith close to us sadly I think its a dying profession

but like all skilled trades its nice to see people excel and do some wonderful work in specific fields no matter what it happens to be in a time of throw away society

There was a great Gunsmith (note the capital "G"!) near me years ago when I was just a kid. He was an artist. If you could describe what you wanted done, he could do it. Now whether he would get around to it was another story. He and his beautiful work spoiled me. Over the years, I spent a lot of time and money in his shop; my wife wondered if we could claim him as a dependent on our income tax! Of course he is long gone, now, RIP. One of my favorite stories: I acquired a Mossberg 142 .22 that was missing the magazine. There were after-market 10 shot available but I thought I'd see if Jim had a 7 shot original. I could hear him rumaging around in the back and he came out with one. I asked how much and he said $7. Happy to get it, I said, "Would you take 20?" and handed him a $20 dollar bill. He gave me $13 change!

Agree, I am fortunate enough to live by a master gunsmith.

    Me also.......

Fred has been my good friend, and mentor, for about 45years.

My gunsmithing avocation is what I've enjoyed, over these many decades.🤠
