I do not have it in hand. A friend sent pictures and asked for help identifying and valuing this old piece.
Barrel is marked, "H LEDFORD."
Thanks!

Henry Ledford circa 1840s from what I gather. That barrel is HIW LONG?!! Look up that name and you can find some info- dandy looking piece !
Barrel is very long. Hard to tell how long, but I believe at least 42 inches.
Rifle is an original piece the 1860 or so. By the style of the lock. Rod is no correct. Can be worth anywhere from 500 up. Tell your friend to make sure it's unloaded. I have seen to many that were hanging over the fireplace for years and were loaded.
The maker died in 1852? or so it predates that. (1860)
Henry Ledford (1796-1856) was a gunsmith who worked out of Davidson County North Carolina.
Ask your friend if he has the original box? (would add to the value)
AND yes about it possibly having a load.
Guy brought me an old Civil war double barrel percussion double hammer shotgun and one barrel was still loaded.
