Melatonin

I used to take 5 mg a night to try to help me sleep.
Talking with my mom and sister, they both take 20mg.
Had a conversation with my son and he brought it up.
He is very educated and studies things to a level that I will never understand or obtain.
He found that 1-2 mg is all you need and that more is counterproductive.
So, last Sunday night, I cut my 5mg pill in half.
Four days in to this trial, I’ve never felt better.
I’m more rested.
Before I would think that I was awake but actually I was asleep.
Id be worn out by 1-1:30.
I passed this information on to my mom and she passed it on to my sister.
Both stated that they are getting great sleep and are amazed that taking only a fraction of what they used to take is working so good for them.
Just an FYI.
YMMV.

Short term use rather than every night forever is also recommended.

With extended use, melatonin gave me restless legs. I quit it and started taking Relaxium (that I got at Costco for about 1/4 the online price and no monthly subscription.) That worked fine for me, but when my local Costco stopped stocking it, I bought some of their generic Unisom. Now THAT is a sleep aid. Cheap, too.

I used to wake up every 45 minutes to an hour, tossing and turning. I now get three to four hours at a time, usually waking briefly at about 2 before sleeping again until 5. And no grogginess in the morning, either.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Last night I dreamed I was awake but when I woke up, I was asleep.

I took it for a year maybe longer and had to quit. It worked great at first but as time went on, I started having a fog every morning. I was taking 5mg and then 10mg that I would break in half or not. That morning fog started turning into a mild headache and I quit. I don't miss it. I can get to sleep without it. My doctor told me what you said that anything over 5 mg was unnecessary.

I just want to not feel like I'm on fire, sweating my brains out, then freezing because the heat wave passes……almost falling back asleep and realizing I have to pee. Anyone that says anything about old women being "cranky" can kiss my butt.
