Clawson's .45 service Pistols Book Not showing a barrel with that designation, for military..
Last Version Military was " Colt 45 Auto" Starting in 1949 for 1911A1( Replacement)
I'd Say it for a Commercial Government Colt National Match
Ouch! Checked out the Pricing on that Book in amazon over $ 500.00. Mine is signed too.
A 4 inch length, marked National Match? I was not aware the shorter barrel was ever a “National Match” type. Typically Colt Gold Cup National Match was a 5-1/2 inch length barrel.
Gold Cup, Government Model, 1911 are 5 inch, Commander is 4 1/4", there are a few "Gold Cup Commanders."
I think a 4" barrel marked Colt has been cut off for something else.
Sorry late getting pictures. It measures 4" and does not look cut to us. We've owned this as it is for a long time and came with a box of 1911 parts.
I say cut. Was there even a Officer's way back in WW2 days?
That is a 4.25" Commander barrel, when in the gun the barrel extension "hood" counts. I am not entirely sure it is a real Colt barrel, but it should be usable.
Good pictures. That is not the nice, rounded machined crown that Colt machines on the end of it's 1911 barrels. I vote for cut-off.
After researching/asking others on their alike barrels, the lug/hood? is included in the 4.25" measurement. We didn't know that.
Actually though this barrel is only 4 1/8" long counting hood? Now we are really confused, because it doesn't look cut to us. And why would someone cut it for any reason, doesn't make sense.
" doesn't make sense."………..sure it does, someone wanted a top-quality barrel on their colt commanded (or clone).
