Jim we used those same knives at work in the meat shop, ( Kroger's )….. a few of them followed me home
It is kohlrabi which I guessed by the looks of it, then looked it up to be sure. I don't believe I have ever eaten any of ii, that is because it is same family as cabbage, kale, brussels sprouts and some others I do not care for…

Grandpa grew them 50 odd years ago.

How you cook it, fry it??
We always ate them raw. Peel and eat like a turnip.

Slice it thin some salt an enjoy
peel and dice into 1/2" cubes, salt pepper, and some finely sliced sweet onion, a large pat or 2 of butter and 3 oz of water add all into a frying pan and sauté on med. heat till the cubes are just tender, yum! thats the way my grandmother made them, never had any better no matter how made or eaten.
