A sad day for me..........
I am a little bummed. My favorite gun shop and indoor range is closing at the end of the month… It is being sold and there is a large storage business attached to it. The Range was built over 30 years ago and when it was built, it was outside of town. But in that time, the city grew all around it and everything was grandfathered in so it has been able to keep operating. Now that it is being sold, all of that goes out the window and it would take an estimated 1M to bring it up to code now…
When I retired and moved down here, this was one of the places where I met and hung out with folks when I did not know anybody. Guess I will get used to driving a little farther to another indoor range and spend more time at the outside ones in the area…
The only silver lining has been a couple good deals came my way…

Dang. Thats a shame.
Sadly, the only thing in life that's constant ....... is change.
So true….
I feel there is a huge decline in shooters, and hunters of younger ages to replace us old guys as we pass on.
And that goes with few new, younger members on the forum. When we joined here we were what 40,50,60s?? Now we are 60, 70s, very few 80s, and passed on. Last young guys I can recall is Zulu, Jacob (tomahawks boy) and coltpax that got into it with dano. That's it.
Too true . Looking at 70 next time around .
Dang William, that's a bummer for sure.
Too bad
Times they are a changing
we have a really nice gun range in Jonesboro Arkansas if you ever want to come down this way
Aren't you on a large enough place to make your own Frank or is it the other folks that you will miss? Either way sorry to hear you are losing something dear to you.
Cattle on one side, Roads on two sides of the place, Newer houses built down range on a couple sides.. It is difficult to find a place where I feel is safe…. And to be honest, I do not want to mess up my hunting either.
But truth be told, I will miss the hanging out there more to socialize with like minded folks than the shooting ! I am sure I will figure out how to do both…

That's definitely part of the experience, isn't it? Every time I'm at the range, I spend time browsing the inventory, talking with the sales people, and chatting with folks that are doing the same. I've met some very interesting people that way.

Absolutely…. I got to know several current and retired LEO's as well as folks from all walks of life… Many veterans from all branches of service. There were always good stories and experiences shared. I shot many firearms others were using at the range and in tern let a lot of folks fire mine. It will be a social experience which will be hard to replicate…
It is nice, but I actually prefer Scatter Creek over the Sports Complex. I am between Jonesboro and Paragould and it is a little farther for me, but not a lot. A lot smaller and I just feel more comfortable there.
I just got back from the range. Shot for an hour with my father in law. After that, he and I hung around for a while and caught up on the week, talked with the guys at the rental counter (they're a bunch of goofballs), and gave some grief to the guys who were in the bay next to me and put two of their shots on my target. 😂. We all laughed and they apologized and I told them "it was still a pretty good group" which made them laugh some more.
Gun people and gun ranges inspire that kind of community. It's easy going, genuine, and open. I feel for you, @William81. To the uninformed, a gun range is nothing. To those of us who know, a good range is a tiny community where people can be themselves.

Things change. When I lived there no gunshop (well, that long ago they were all hardware stores) had a range of any kind. Glad you have a backup and a back pasture.
A lot of small businesses are closing. I have friends who tried to sell their business but because the government made it so hard they closed instead of selling.
