Brave youg man a lot of people are scared of spiders
I had a "pet " tarantula when I was about 18 yrs old . It use to sit it on my arm or shoulder people though it was fake untill it would take off running
My future wife and I handled it many times , it never bit or even tried to bite us
We use to feed it crickets and small mice i would catch
Not sure at the time of
it's gender but we called it Warren.
And it helped get me over the fear of spiders my parents had hammered into me as a kid
I about caused my divorce a few months after being married. My wife hates spiders, even cute cartoonish pictures of spiders is enough to cause fear. At the time, I was working as a recent college graduate intern and the office had halloween decorations, including small plastic spiders. Well, I took a small black plastic spider home with me, put it on my tongue, closed my mouth, and went to see my wife. Walked up to her and opened my mouth. I knew I crossed a line at that point.
My fun̈ny spider story
Where i used to work I was in the office in later years of employment we had a female manager who was scared of spiders /bugs of any kind
So of course being the group we were
One day it was set up A piece of fishing line a plastic spider and one of the guys was to call her
Just as she sat down her phone riang , oh crap not us , too late she grabed the phone of of course the plastic spider jumped to her face .her scream could be heard a mile away and the phone and spider were throw just anout as far
Every one in the office stoped tofind out what happened
Of course after a butt chewing fom a higher up manager and a phone call to the supplier and explained why they went deff .
But It was worth the laughs after it all settled back down and no more strings and spiders of course ..
Many species do have urticating hairs. I have broken out in hives to my shoulders more than once. Some species do bite readily, african and Asian species can cause serious medical emergencies. Many of the Mexican and Central American Species are pretty docile. Had a Haitian spider that would bite in a heartbeat. It was big, and I used it in movie work.
Friend had a tarantula in Virginia City, Nevada. They were all over the road, especially going down six mile canyon. Don't know what model they were, but big and hairy.
Probably Aphonopelma iodius. I don't think it has a common name.
Call me I will catch your snake fir you . Try to put a big spider/ TARANTULA on me and someone is going to get seriously hurt / maimed/crippled etc
Yeah, those big ones are tough.
Ahhh, I thought so
As always, thanks for your expert knowledge
I knew you just needed a little reminder. You can always do a search on tarantulas of Nevada if I am fishing. Unless you don't reall give a fig.
The one I had was a red legged ? ..something or other I dont rememer what the pet shops full name was for it
It would kick it's hairs off as a detergent but they never had any effect on me but I didn't get them in eyes their goal to deture predators
Owning It was a major turning point on spiders for me up to them I was taught the only good one was dead and they all wanted to bite me
When I was a kid same with snakes
Brachypelma smithi. Usually red-leggeds are among the most calm and docile species. And one of the prettiest.
James Bond was on duty in Jamaica. SPECTRE put a Jamaican Tarantula on him. It was a close call, Bond barely escaped. He beat the spider to death with his shoe.
The james bond post above reminded me as a kid tarantulas were used a lot in scary movies or for the effect fear of death if bitten in many movies
Playing on people's fear of spiders and of course the size of them helped with that
Of all the big, scary, dangerous, deadly things that live on our planet, spiders are the one thing that really freak me out. I don't care how small or large they are the fear is the same …… and they are too damned quiet, God should have put bells on them so we would know when the creepy little bastages were around.
A old GF I looked up about 6 months ago. a long story to find old photos of my cars early on when I was young I posted about it and will not do it again
Any way she became a bike rider over the last 50 years some where down the line has some great looking bikes she included photos eith my old car photos one had written on the rear fender
we have nothing to fear but fear it's self "Not uncommon "
However Right below, that was written "except spiders xxxx spiders " and yes the four letter word is what you think it said
Ever been close to a 400 pound cat, or been stalked by a bear? I'll take spiders any day!
It seems that our generation was brain washed to fear spiders starting at an early age with nursery rhymes like "Little Miss Muffet" and jingles about the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" 😯
And just when I was getting over that fear, that movie "The Fly" came out! 😁
Yeah, I'll stick with big cats and bears.
I like most spiders except the barking ones. I always step on them when I hear one.
That where you got the bruises on your bum?
You are braver than I. Sissy🤣
Not a sissy at all just have a thing about spiders.
I feel the same way about women
