Three o'clock this afternoon. This is a busy road, I don't think he would have made it.

There is a chip missing from his shell, but it has healed up. I wonder if maybe last year he was just nipped by a car, while his head and claws were withdrawn into his shell.
Good for you!! I have rescued many box turtles over the years. His colors are kind of in between. In one area I frequently drove the turtles color was a very bright yellow. About 30 miles away the turtles color was a very bright orange. The one you posted is, like I said, in between.
20 years ago when my second batch of kids were young I would often bring home box turtles. I would let the kids hold it and play with it. Then we would turn it loose in the fenced in back yard. We would go in the house and I would check the time. 15 minutes later I would tell the kids to go out and find the turtle. Almost never could they find the turtle. It is impressive just how quick they can disappear!! Isn't nature wonderful!!!
Marginal damage more likely caused by a fall while climbing in rocks while young, or caused by a would be predator.
Good rescue.
Your a good guy
Some thing about turtles we feel the need to help them
Or eat them in some cases
I hear they taste like chicken.
When my girls were young there was one with a chipped shell that showed up in our yard once or more every year. They named him Fudge, and were always excited when he showed up. They would feed him diced tomatoes, and move him out of harms way. I figured that he got the chip from a neighborhood lawn mower.
Some say you taste like chicken. Grilled chicken. That' the word. The actually taste like alligator or frog legs. I encourage you not to eat box turtles, they happily eat fungus toxic to moderators and other humans.
I had box turtles about around 2004. I set up about 1/4 of the back yard with their water access and made shelters for shade and safety. The grand kids loved coming to play and feed them. We had fun for about 4 years, until an Osprey decided to snack on one of them. This broke my spirit of keeping them as pets. I gathered the other box turtles and released them. We used to see turtles crossing roads, but none in the last couple if years. So many houses being built, has destroyed their habitat.
Good job, Allen.
I moved another turtle this morning, also on Little Pine Rd.
He might have been looking for that other turtle. Don
I know exactly where Little Pine and Big pine are.Years ago there were some tough individuals from that part of the country.
Well sure, Allen is one of them.
Be careful if you are driving and pull over to do this.
guess that is what the turtles are running from…………..
A friend of mine, a well known Eastern herpetologist was hit and killed exactly that way.
I rescued this guy a while back. He was not appreciative for the help…
Damn someone drover over him like a Botts Dots.
